“Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Alice Walker was about the choices made by the people who lived in the south. Many who were forced away from the south in order to be able to live. This was not a choice for many people, but Martin Luther King, Jr. showed that there is always a choice, when he showed resistance when he was arrested that was his choice. With this act, he showed people that there is a choice and they do not have to live with the pain that they once. The choice that Martin Luther King, Jr. made gave many people back their heritage, land and a place to call home.

In Alice Walkers “Choice: A tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King” I feel that her major point of the essay is how empowerd Dr. King made everyone feel. “At the moment I saw his resistence I knew I would never be able to live in this country without resisting everything that sought to disinherit me, and I would never be forced away from my the land of my birth without a fight.” (page 144) For generations her family had lived on land that at some point was bought by them. Many generations of her family lived and died on that land but it was never truly their land and at any given moment someone could come and take it away.
Dr. Martin Luther King jr. inspired Walker so, that she knew her generation was going to be different than the latter. He gave her and her family a hope that they had never felt before. He instilled the thought of choice in our minds and let all of us know that no matter what our skin color or economical situation that we were in, we still have a right to choices. In the past we did as we were told and Dr. King let us know that was not fair and we all deserve equality.
Walker found herself and her meaning through Dr. King and he gave her a new reason to live and something beautiful to believe in. She figured out through listening to him and other African Americans in the media that it was ok to choose and we do have a right to choose our paths.

Choice: A Tribute To DR. Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who had a great vision. He wanted to speak for all people about discrimination. He believed everyone should be treated equally without any questions. He help segregation get destroyed. He gave the people of darker skin something to live for. He was teaching everyone to believe in themselves. I think it worked. The darker skinned people were treated worse than second class citizens. King was the best speaker I have ever heard.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great pioneer and an inspiring character, whose influence and encouragement was not only towards African-Americans, but towards all races and generations. He paved the way for all people so that we might have justice and equality in this society. “Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King”, was about a girl, who struggles with understanding her family’s history. She also mentioned the impact it had on her family, and why it was important. I believe the main idea for this story, would be her summary on Dr. Martin Luther King. She explains the way she first seen him, to the way he presented himself throughout the movement. I guess Dr. MLK, was a big influence, in there lifes and for millions of other Americans. Dr. Martin Luther king, played a very important role in everyone’s past and future. He was a very important person, but also a very important person throughout history. Without him, things would most likely be so much He stepped up, and shared his positive views, and gave us all the mentality of peace, and equal rights. The author explained that in order for her to feel as if she was ever going to get the equality that she expected it was going to be a hard fought battle. Which through racism that has broken up black families and caused grief throughout the community because of the unfair treatment toward African Americans. Dr. King though at first was not an icon to Ms. Walker who later learned that the only way freedom will come is for a stand to be taken. As she became to learn more things about Dr. King she wanted to expand her knowledge. She found comfort in Dr. King’s teachings which gives blacks the right to sit in the front of the bus or enjoy a meal in a restaurant without being harassed or tortured.

Choice: a Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In this essay the author speaks of the hardships that southern black folks were faced with. Do we stay and deal with achieving some sort of justice by means of struggle and uncivil abuse, or do we leave to keep the little sanity and “sensibility” that we have left? Dr. King, Jr. gave this author a definite sense of hope since the first time he had seen Martin handcuffed and jailed in an example of “non-violent” protest. This instilled a sense of strength and opposition to the demanding and oppressive forces in power; the whites. He speaks of Dr. King as “The One, The Hero, The Fearless Person for whom we had waited.” As for his personal involvement in the civil rights struggle was monumental and his teachings were so extraordinary that many were not able to totally comprehend his “complex and revolutionary philosophy.” However, the fact still remains that he showed an example of hope staying alive. In result of his teachings of, efforts to educate people about, and involvement in the civil rights movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has given back a sense of dignity and power to a people whom seemed to be lost in a time of adversity civilly and economically in particular. Many need to pay homage as this author has done to the works of Dr. King for all people, whether you be black, white, yellow, or brown have benefitted at the least consciously from his life’s work.

“Choice: A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.” by Alice Walker
By reading this essay I learned that Martin Luther King Jr. made many people change. People saw how he was doing and others wanted to do the same thing. “At the moment I saw his resistance I knew I would never be able to live in this country without resisting everything that sought to disinherit me, and I would never be forced away from the land of my birth without a fight”(144). When Alice saw that Martin Luther King was resisting, that he looked calm and peaceful, she realized that she could also do the same thing. Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the essay by Alice Walker it informs others of why Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr changed her outlook on being able to have a choice rather than to just resist due to the struggle. In the beginning she points out how everything in her past was lost due to the fact that it all was taken away. Many in the south would rather leave than to endure brutality. When Walker saw Dr. King on TV being arrested and seemed calm and serene this shined new light on the idea of resistance. This changed her outlook because now she realized that we all have choices and it up to one self to make it. Being that Walker’s understanding was changed she was now found after all and loved where she came from due to the fact that Dr. King gave back everything that was missing.

Blog Essay: CHOICE: A TRIBUNE TO DR.MLK JR.

In this story Choice: A Tribune To Dr. MLK JR. by Alice Walker she describes how people wanted a change in the Southern life but was afraid to make those changes. As Walker stated even her own brother and sister were pushed away from the south because they knew that they “could not do any better”. For those who wanted to make that change they took risk and stayed strong. Dr. Martin Luther King showed them resistance when he was getting arrested, and that everybody has a choice no matter what the outcome is. With King being this way he made a lot of changes in people’s lives, saying its ok to be strong and your voice counts. This made people more aware, Walker says, of their “heritage, and gave them back their homeland” (145).

Choice: A Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by Alice Walker was about a woman who had to make hard choices while living in the south. Feeling as though the land her family was buried on belonged to her because they were there for a long time. Even if they was to own the land someone would have taken it from them. She wanted to stay and cherish the memories of her family but she knew it was a risk of loosing the love of her birth land. Then one day on television she saw Dr. Martin Luther King and that’s when she realized she will not be forced from her land without fighting for it. He showed them that they have a voice, this is their home just as well as anybody else’s, and that they do not have to leave and forget where they came from.

One key idea of Alice Walker’s essay “Choice: A Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.” was the empowerment and hope that MLK Jr. gave Alice Walker when she first saw him being arrested and put into a police truck (144). She said:

“At the moment I saw his resistance I knew I would never be able to live in this country without resisting everything that sought to disinherit me, and I would never e forced away from the land of my birth without a fight.” (144)

MLK Jr.’s presence must have been very powerful and inspiring for so many other young African-Americans at that very same moment as Alice Walker saw him on TV.

Alice Walker’s “Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is about the choices that people make and that one man can change your life. Some of these choices might have been very difficult to make and could really affect someone’s life. Like when people had to leave the south because their land is “always in danger of being taken away”(143). Alice Walker talks about the first time that she seen Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He was being arrested for claiming his rights but “he displayed no fear” (144). She say that he is “the one, the hero, the one fearless person for whom we had waited for” (144). Alice Walker talks about how Dr. King gave them many things through his actions and presence, but to her the most important was that he gave them back their heritage.(145)

Choice: A tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. By Alice walker is about her feeling towards Dr, King. Her essay explains how her family and community appreciate him so much. His courage and drive or standing up for his people gave others hope to stand up for what they wanted. He was like a hero or someone everybody can count on. He was the one person to speak or do all the things other people were afraid to do. Some compared him to God because of his dedication. Dr, King wanted to make sure we were treated equal. He risked his life making sure our ancestors’ memories will be notices and never forgetting. This is a man who believed in making a difference, and making changes for everyone. In Alice Walkers "Choice: A tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr" Alice talks about the land. About the bitter knowledge of that in order just to continue to love land of her birth, she was expected to leave. It was the norm for "the people who could not do better" and the stubborn ones to stay. In 1960 She discovered MLKJ and it changed her life. She says he was the one they were waiting for, he was the one who would be the strong leader they all needed. MLKJ gave them back there heritage. Martin Luther King gave them back a home. I do think that Alice Walker did a great job writing this piece. You can tell she is very passionate about her beliefs and values. And her writing stands out.

“Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Alice Walker is the address that was made in 1972, several years after the Civil Right Movement. She elaborated black Southern people’s disinherited life and identity before Martin Luther King, Jr. appeared; their love of homeland and the destiny, in their mind, they had accepted to force away from it. However, Dr. King’s choice that he resists for “his rights as a native son” made people to think about their destiny which they accepted without struggle. From Dr. King’s choice, courage and faithful presence, people learned about the worth of struggling. The spirit of the Movement awakened silent people and changed their personal life and society people have lived. Most of all, the choice that Martin Luther King, Jr. made gave many people back their homeland, their inherited identity from God.

In "Choice: A Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Alice Walker, she points out the fact that until Dr. King came along, the only way to “live” was to move out of the south. The fact that so many black people believed this to be true was upsetting. Also seeing Dr. King getting arrested showed that even someone who was being held up in the eyes of many made a choice to perform an act that made him capable of being arrested. He sacrificed his “clean” record and even his life so that others could live the way they live today. Walker felt a sense of pride sitting in a restaurant that only a few years ago wouldn’t serve blacks.

Alice walker is an African woman who was taught loving something was to just leaving it alone. “When I came of age in the early sixties I awoke to the bitter knowledge that in order just to continue to love the land of my birth, I was expected to leave it.” (143) so basically, when she love something she will have to just leave it alone, which means she cannot buy it or take it away but to leave it alone. Until one day she saw Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on T.V, claiming his right as a native son. After watching Dr. King, walker knew that she will not be forced to leave her birth place with out a fight.
