James Baldwin wrote a letter to his nephew James on the 100th anniversary of the Emancipation of Proclamation. He wanted his nephew to understand many different things about himself, the history of our country, love and forgiveness. Baldwin states “And if the word integration means anything, this is what is means: that we, with love, shall force our brothers to see themselves as they are, to cease fleeing from reality and begin to change it.”(294)

What this means to me is that no matter what man may do to you, never loose sight of the cause. We share different realities so therefore we can not expect us to agree on all things. Love is the only thing that is going to make a change in this world. You can not fight fire with fire; you have to use water to put the flame out. We should fight hatred and ignorance with love instead of hate. Basically what Baldwin is saying is they are trapped in a history that they do not understand; and until they understand it, they will always carry it inside. (294)

In conclusion I feel that Baldwin was expressing his love to and for his nephew. He wanted him to understand that just because a certain type of person views you one way, it does not mean that is who you are. As long as you know where you come from and you are full of love, your possibilities are endless……

James Baldwin

James Baldwin tries to teach about forgiveness to his nephews. He wrote “…[H]ere you were: to be loved. To be loved baby, hard at once and forever, to strengthen you against the loveless world.”(7)

From that phase he gave, he is trying to tell us but mainly to his nephews, that even if you may not know that you are loved, and say that you are not love at all, there is still others who love you a lot and will not fail to do so. With that strength, you will not have to worry about the big world itself and you can continue you doing what you must. On the part where it is said, “To strengthen you against the loveless world” It sounded like he had said that part with a lot of love. We can all see that he love his nephew a lot and he does not want anything to happen to him.

By saying that one part in his phrase, like said earlier, that he his nephew does not have to feel as though he has no one to help him or that he is always alone and should realize that there is hope for him.If without saying anything like this within the letter to his nephew, I do not think the kid would know anything about what is going on. JB really want to let his nephew understand the concept of love and hoping it would integrate in the kid’s head. Even though in his letter that he had written a couple times, he will keep on stating it repeatedly just so his word will reach.

Altogether, JB is a caring man that does not want his nephew to feel as though he is not love or not have the strength to do a certain thing or to fight for what he want. By saying that to him, it should give him the courage and strength to believe what is right.

James Baldwin
James Baldwin wanted to tell his nephew what true love is. It is hard to find love in one being let alone yourself. The more love you spread the more love you should in return. The more people you have that care about you the better chance you have on surviving. Love is something most people hold dearly.
Trying to describe love is a tough task. Love is not acting like someone else you must always be yourself. You were born fifteen years ago and you have a nickname big baby. It seems that Baldwin told his nephew your life is going to be difficult, because of your race.
I think Baldwin did a good job in his letter on describing what love is to his nephew. He expressed his true feelings about the situation which a true writer does.

In James Baldwin letter to his nephew James, written on the 100th
anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation he wants his nephew to understand what true love is. He writes: Here you were: to be loved. To be loved, baby, hard, at once, and forever, to strengthen you against the loveless word. (page7)
During that hard time the love was very important. Author says: We have not stopped trembling yet, but if we had not loved each other none of us would have survive. (page7) Baldwin tells how power of love leads you to truth.
We need to love and accept each other the way we are. We cannot hate white people for what they did; we should accept them with love. Only love can change the world. With love we could change things, make them better. Anger will not change anything- it will make it worst. He also says: “And if the word integration means anything, this is what it means: that we, with love, shall force our brothers to see themselves as
they are, to cease fleeing from reality and begin to change it”(page9-10). In the end of the letter James tells his nephew how much he loves him. How he should love his live and his family to be able change the world and make it better place to live.

In conclusion I would like to say we can read that passage by ourselves. It is very important to respond with love to everything around us. For example, if someone is mean to you-be nice. You will win and you will acknowledge other person how to behave. Believe or not but you can change the world.

In the James Baldwin letter to his nephew on the 100th anniversary of Emancipation Proclaim nation he wanted his nephew to understand forgiveness. “He says: The really terrible thing, old buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept with love. (Page 8)

He hope his nephew could see, that white America, don’t have a clue about what they are doing, nor do they understand why things are the way they are. They may not know what love is. Baldwin wants his nephew to not continue what they started. To not act like them, which is hateful, but show them a better way by love? By examples by forgiveness, you can tell someone something without telling them why.

Baldwin has learned to forgive. He wants James to learn how to do the same.
Forgiveness is a tool. That can help you let go of pain and accept peace. When you act out of anger you tin to do these you would never imagine. When you look at the root, or the damages that has occurred then you can feel the blinded pain and encourage peace that is seek voluntary. Baldwin feels that White American needs to see love and forgiveness, so they won’t be afraid to make a change

In his essay "My Dungeon Shook" James Baldwin writes to his nephew in regards to understanding why most of American society will look down on him as inferior. Amidst all that he also wanted his nephew to remain accepting of these people. Baldwin wrote, "You must accept them and accept them with love. For these innocent people have no other hope" (8).

Baldwin strongly emphasized that he wanted his nephew to able to cope with the suppression he would face and not to lash out and lower himself to the same level of bigotry. Rather, he wanted his nephew to know that the best way to fight their ignorance would be with understanding and their hate with love. Baldwin explains to his nephew that the only way that society can ever destroy him is if he begins to believe that he is what others tell him he is (4).

It would be difficult to not believe in what they say, according to Baldwin, because everything in his nephew’s life was constructed to make him believe in what white people said about him (8). Baldwin knew that his nephew’s strength and pride would constantly be tested, but ultimately it was within him to prevail or to fold under society’s suppression.

In the Letter that James Baldwin wrote to his nephew “My Dungeon Shook” James Baldwin writes to his nephew and is trying to articulate to him how important it is for him to forgive in regards to white America. He wants his nephew to understand that white America, unfortunately is something in life that he has to accept. Although its complicated to not feel hatred, and rage towards them for such awful supression. James Baldwin wants for his nephew to just accept them through love, not by acting as they act, and not by acting on feelings which will result in harmful reations, but by showing them that there is a better way, and that better way is love.
James Baldwin puts much feeling into expressing to his nephew that although it will be difficult to do this, and it will be difficult to not believe in what white America wants for him to believe about himself. He constucts to his nephew that believing what they want you to believe is the only way that society will have its way to have its best with you. If you avoid and ignore the ignorance and respond to it will love, and acceptance, then they will never succeed, and all they will be doing is harming themselves.
James Baldwin knew that expressing these feelings to his nephew, and trying to get his nephew to understand and cope with the structure of life would most likely be difficult for his nephew to do. However after doing the job of relaying the message James knew that from there it would be up to his nephew to to reach life's peak and prosper

In Baldwin’s letter to his nephew James written on the one hundredth anniversary of the Emancipation he wants to know his nephew what is their history. He says “You really are of another era, part of what happened when the Negro left the land and came into what the late E. Frazier called “the cities of destruction.” You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white would calls a nigger. I Tell you this I love you, and please don’t you ever forget it.”(4) Why he honestly told their painful history to James. I think If we know what’s exact history then we may know how can overcome present.

Then how we can overcome present? So he also told his nephew only the power of the love will lead you to truth and overcome present which is base on history. He says “The really terrible thing, old buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept them with love. For these innocent people have no other hope.”(8) Love is definitely painful also love always demands endurance.

However, truly I know it’s not easy to accept with love someone who hostility base on painful history. If this history was mine I would denied or try to forget it. But in our human being we can’t deny our history even if it’s shame, humiliation, or good we have to carry on in our life. We can’t change past. But during our live we try to embrace painful history with love. Also we can hope for our future better then present.

In the James Baldwin letter, he wanted his nephew to understand forgiveness. This was aimed to his nephew on the 100th anniversary of Emancipation Proclaim nation. “He says: The really terrible thing, old buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept with love. (Page 8)

He was on the track to get his nephew to realize that white America just isn't the same as it used to be. Baldwin wants his nephew to end what they started. They may not know what love is.Acting like them would be considered hateful in many aspects. This shows that you don't have to tell someone the reason of what your conversation is.

James says that he want's Baldwin to learn how to forgive, and he also mentions how it can be a tool that can help you let go of pain and accept peace. Baldwin feels that White American needs to see love and forgiveness, so they won’t be afraid to make a change. When you look at the root, or the damages that has occurred then you can feel the blinded pain and encourage peace that is seek voluntary. When you act out of anger you tend to do these you would never imagine.

My Dungeon Shook

In the James Baldwin’s letter to his nephew James written on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Emancipation Proclamation, Baldwin wants his nephew to understand his true identity which can not manipulated and chained to others.

Baldwin mentions his grandfather as an example of African American whose identity had manipulated through American history which is dominated by white America. “…he [grandfather] was defeated long before he died because, at the bottom of his heart, he really believed what white people said about him” (4). He tries to teach his nephew that what people believe about you and treat you as an inferior black people is not your true identity, and he let his nephew know about his true identity which comes from love. He wants to strengthen him and says that you born to be loved. Furthermore, he calls white men as the lost, younger brother who also raised on distorted history and states, “You must accept them [white people] and accept them with love”(8).

He presents the power of love will lead his nephew to overcome the empty word integration in reality, and lead him to be free from the distorted history and other’s conception of black people. Though the history was hard, there were pioneers who blazed the way, and because of the reason he cheering his nephew on to strip down and keep running to the point of “dungeon shook and chains fell off” (10).

Baldwin wrote a letter to his nephew James to let him know the American history and to let him know the love he has for him. One of the arguments he made is don’t act the way people act. If the people are not acting right, you can be a better person and ignored them. He writes, “To act is to be committed and to be committed is to be in danger (9)”. No matter what you do, mind your own business as long as you’re doing the right thing. It’s better to ignore situation that’s not important instead of being in danger Why wasting time?
Many times we can’t hold emotions and we say things we don’t mean which leads to many circumstances. In this case, I learn to forgive and forget and move on. I always tend to think about the consequences of every situation I make. That will make a big difference in my life. Different people think differently, but ignored the people who don’t act right, so our life will be much better.
In this letter, Baldwin wants to let his nephew to learn a lesson. To behave, to be safe, to teach his nephew about forgiveness, to forgive is to ignore situation that’s not important to you, and to give him an important message that he’ll loves him no matter what and will protect him with his love.

The power of love will lead you to truth, James Baldwin tells his nephew in his letter, “My Dungeon Shook.” People can be living without exactly knowing the truth about things and it’s not until they realize that by loving other people you can be led to find the truth. Baldwin says, “You must accept them and accept them with love” (8). There old be sometimes when you just don’t want to accept other people and one of the reasons could be that you don’t like how you’re being treated. But at the end you’ll have to accept them and with love.

“There is no reason for you to try to become like white people and there is no basis whatever for their impertinent assumption that they must accept you. The really terrible thing…is that you must accept them” (8). There shouldn’t be any reason of why some people want to be like someone else just to get accepted. You should always keep yourself the same way you have always been. Sometimes you think that you need to be accepted when in reality you need to accept them the way they are. And by doing this there is no need for you to change. The only thing that could change is that now you will love them.

James Baldwin Letter
James Baldwin wrote this letter to his nephew to inform him about integration and segregation toward black people. James nephew was born and named after his uncle James Baldwin. James never meet his father but he resembles his father a lot he looks like him, acts like him, that is the reason James Baldwin wrote him this letter.
Deep in this letter Mr. Baldwin speaks about his feeling toward white people. James Baldwin felt like the white people killed his brother. James raised his brother as if he was his own child. The reason James fill like his brother was killed by white people is the way they spoke about him, he believed every thing they said and the worrying caused him his death.
He raised James father since he was an infant, all the way until he was an adult. James would carry him on his back whenever they had to travel, and his nephew would get tired. Mr. Baldwin felt as if his brother had no chance. Born a black man was bad in the early 1960’s the white people used integration and segregation to stop black people from moving forward in life. Black people were told who they could and could not marry, were they can and can not go. And the public places that did not allow black people to enter. James protest white people expected black people to grow up in the ghetto never to learn how to spell their first and last names, and to live and stay in the ghetto for life.
Not expecting for black people to find a way out. James letter to his nephew was to say even though the white man show’s no love for us we have to show love to them and accept them for who they are no matter what. James Baldwin “There you were to be loved baby, hard at once to forever to strengthen you against a Loveless world” That was hard because they have very little expectation of black people. The white people treated black people like the scum of the earth. White people wanted black people to love them no matter what. The best thing Baldwin’s nephew could do was just accept his father’s death do not be mad at them just do better with self. No matter what they say about black people stay a leader, become a leader, and all the negative energy will roll off you like dirt.
