In most cases when a parent is trully passionate about something, then the offspring ends up following the footsteps of the parent and becomes passionate about it it also, or something in fact similar to the passion. However this is the case for some, not all. The teachings are received from the parent to the child, and the child either takes the inspiration and leads with it, or leaves in. Timi Gerson in guidance, and teachings of her father, and family background decide to be active in econmical change for the better, and does it with a strong confident mind.
Timi Gerson is the daughter of Bill Gerson who is a former leader in Students for a Democratic Society, as well as the daughter of Carol Hoggs who was an organizer to opposition for the klu klux klan. Timi Gerson is the grandaughter of a woman who was an union organizer, and a man who was editor of The Daily Worker ( a Marxist magazine)Timi Gerson was also sent to summer camo where she was taught about the civil rights movement, as well as self confidence. With Timi Gerson’s family background her activism was something that came normal for her.
Timi Gerson realized the the Average American was lacking the importance, and the understandment of Global Justice, that was taking place economically around the world. She felt that this should not be something that is abstarct to Americans, because it isnt abstarct to those that are facing poverty. She has an extremely strong opinion when it comes to this issue, and she fights for people to understand it.
To add a solution to this issue Timi became an organizer for the Citizen’s Global Trade Watch that is based in Washington D.C. This position she holds currently. This organizatoin helps in progessing corporate accountabilty in the globalization arena. Timi Gerson says: “its about democracy” she says “ fifty-one hundred largest economies aren’t accountable to anybody. You can say thry’re accountable to theirshareholders or to their consumers. But really, they’re not accountable like my congressman in my disrict is accountable to me” (pg 250)
The lack of knowledge that Americans have about this issue is something that bothers Timi Gerson. So she dosent mind having a job of explaining to people that the global justice movement is trying to show people a new approach to oppression sahe says “ that’s just as evil as anything seen during the civil rights movement” (pg 248)
Timi Gerson has no problem with her postion as she serves to her community with much glory. She has a great way with connecting with her community as she does it with her humor and when telling stories of her upbringing she tends to make fun of it. She has a passion that comes natural to her thanks to her family.
