Initial Planning Sheet

1) What is the subject of your paper?

Taking steps into becoming a better role model for my siblings and younger family members.

2) Why do you want to write about this subject?

I have been putting school and outside activities before myself and family. I have to learn how to manage my time better.

3) What audience will you write for? (Your audience will determine whether you need technical or broad based information from your sources.)

The audience will be those who want to be role models that are sharing my same experience. Also, to those looking for role models, because they have no one to look up to, to call their own role model.

4) What question do you want your research paper to answer?

Why is that there seems to be less and less role models inside ourselves? Or why is that family is more important, but school and work takes up more time.

5) What is the main writing strategy you think you will use? (Description, process or casual analysis, compare/contrast, problem/solution, classification, or argument are some possibilities.)

To plan out my essay, I will use the compare/contrast method and the problem/solution method. By using the compare/contrast method, I can find out the problems, that need to be changed, to see what I am doing wrong. Which will help me, while I use the problem/solution method, because they are connected to one another.

Outline
Thesis: By becoming more active with my younger siblings, I can become a better role model for that they need.

1) Major Point: Now, that I am in college and working, I spend less and less time with my younger sister and brothers.

Evidence: Many times, when I walk in the house, my youngest sister hardly allow me to come in the house without jumping at me with hugs and kisses.

Evidence: There are times, when they act as if they are my parents, while they ask numerous questions about where I am going and who I am with.

2) Major Point: My actions are very important, because my sisters always watch my every move and want to do the exact same actions. I need to be more responsible with my every moves.

Evidence: It will be a big step for me to be able to transfer into a role model, I will have to be my own first.

Evidence: In order for them to go down a good path they have to be able to see a good path to follow down and create their own personal path.

3) Major Point: To be able to accomplish of becoming a role model, my siblings and I have to come to an understanding that I am here to listen to their problems.

Evidence: If my sisters and brothers feel as if they can talk to me, it would release any fear they might have about approaching me about any questions.

Evidence: Talking to them, will create a personal bond to make them feel special and to let them know that they are important.
