Hip Hop Archives Part 1

Today in class students presented. The presentations were varied and quite interesting. Please reflect on the presentations here. Sorry I am posting this so late in the evening. If you don't see it until after we meet tomorrow, I'm okay with your posting later. We will continue the presentations tomorrow.

I mentioned today that I didn't want students to bring books. I guess we can have a part of the museum dedicated to literary work: books and newspapers. I'd rather other objects like the sneakers, fire or light, and in another class, an onion as a metaphor.

Please post your narratives here. Don't forget to respond to another student's post.

Fire

Fire has many usages. It could be very literal such as burning down objects (photos, flags, etc..)

It also ignites paraphernalia in the hip-hop culture. (Kanye West - "Addiction".)

But for a deeper meaning, fire represents a spread. A spread such as Tupac's influence to the community, the culture of Hip-Hop, or even the message from lyrics. The bigger the message, the more influence there is, the bigger the fire's spread will be. In other words, the bigger the influence and message, the larger Hip Hop will be.

Fire can either represent destruction or salvation. Hip Hop could either destroy someone's credibility or help save someone through trouble or heal them. It all depends on how that indivdual use Hip Hop.

With music, Hip Hop can excite people in many ways. Hip Hop could "fire" people up thorugh their music. It could excite people to be in a happy, and socializing way. Another way, which I had experienced recently, was through an Anti-War March. With Hip-Hop, it excites people to start chanting and reciting the lyrics.

Nikes have way more history throughout hip hop culture than Adidas shell toes. I'm a nike head, I wear chains that excite the Feds.

Chain

A chain represents a struggle. Everyone goes through a struggle whether you are rich or poor and whether the struggle is physical or mental. Their are many ways to temporarily escape the struggle. For some people in order for someone to break the struggle they go to hip hop. Hip hop is a way where people can express themselves in a very artistic way. It helps them to escape reality and really explore and bring out there inner self. The chain can also symboize bond because that is what hip hop has done. It has boughet many people from all races and cultures together and help one another live through the sruggle.

Interesting what Thomas said about the Nike shoes having more of an impact to hip hop rather than adidas. What was more interesting is when he said he wears chains that excite the feds. I dont know what that has to do with Nikes havin more popularity but i think i know what he means by that since the feds are always wondering how people make money to have what they have these days whether its legal or illegal.

Microphone "Mic"

In order to being heard in the hip hop industry the microphone "mic" represents the voice. Since hip hop artist want to be heard this tool is well known to hip hop. Many artist have mentioned the word "mic" in there records indicating that the "mic" get there opinions out and there voices heard. Rapper LL Cool J has a microphone tattooed on his arm representing that he is hip hop and that is what he love to do "spit rhymes on the microphone."

Adidas

Adidas started on August 18,1949. Adidas was introduced to the hip hop culture in the 1980's roughly 1986. The hip hop artist Run-Dmc made Adidas a fashion statement when they wore thier adaidas with no laces. The group made the song named "My Adidas" off the Raising Hell album and it was a hit. After making this song they then got thier own line of sneakers with Adidas. This was one of the first songs where Mc's rapped about clothing style. Adidas became a landmark in Hiphop society and world widethanks to Reverend Run, the late Jam master J, and Darryl Mcdaniels or better known as Dmc. Throughout the 1980's hiphop revolved around B-boy breakdancing, big chains,, and just all around style. Run-DMc brought out the popularity of Adidas and this will be archive in hiphop history

RE: Dion

I really like the idea of a Chain as an object of Hip-Hop culture. The chain can represent many ideas: like you said earlier, unity.

In response to Andrew & Dions Hip Hop Archives:

I really liked how Andrew used fire for his hip hop Archives I agree with a lot of what he had to say. He really put a lot of thought into what he presented along with Dions Chain for Unity. I feel that the chains could represent when you are in struggle and you feel as if you can’t break free it can either hold you down or you pull you up.

Snopp Doggy Dogg

Snoop Dogg has been a roll model for the hip hop game for a long time. He has accomplishedthings that helped him and his family plus youth today.

Snoop Dogg in away had a life style as Tupac with one to two differences. With Tupac is mom was on drugs and him and his my really didn't along. Snoop Dogg was different he was the one on drugs and him and his mom were close.

Snoop Dogg started in a goup named 213. This group helped change is life. He was a crack cocain dealer, ex-con, accused murderer, rap star, family man, loyal son, and a son of God.

Snoop Dogg wanted to increase the peace, spread the music, and elevate and educate. Look at his wrongs and don't go that rout.

Reflecting on Dion presentation.

Chain

i like how he uses the chain as a symbol of bonding. it's true that we are struggles thats why we have to break the struggling chain and put on a new one like bonding chain. in other to do that we need some source to bond, and Hip-Hop happen to be just that..
