Chapter 6 Summary and Thesis

Chapter 6 is about the state of women and how we view them in the hip hop world. We know that in this genere they are mostly seen as sex slaves or pleasures for men. They give men a better sense of masculinity when they put women down or only like them for sex. The term "bitch" or "hoe" is used in an interesting way, for instance some men think that a girl who has sex with too many men is considered a hoe but if she doesnt want to have sex then somehow she is considered a bitch. The chapter also talks about how black women seem to fit the role of "bitch" more than a white woman does.

Thesis Sentences:

Event though Tupac claims that he respects women, when he raps on his songs then he is thought to be unbelievable and a hypocrite.

Though the word "bitch" is usually used to put down women, women are fighting back and are trying to use the word in a more positive way.

Even though the word " bitch" is used to describe women, black women are the group of women that people associate that name with the most.

Tupacs relationship with his mother had a big impact on how he views other women, whether it is in his lyrics, or in reality.

Even though some rappers say that they dont hate all women, they constantly describe them as nothing but bitches and hoes, they cannot seem to say girls, ladys, or women instead

Tupac was doubted for saying that he has respect for women because even though he did have songs to praise them, it seems that he has more songs where he put them down and calls them derogatory names

"Summary & 6 Thesis"

In chapter 6 of "Holler If You Hear Me" by Michael Eric Dyson, the chapter is talking about how women are interpreted in the hip hop culture. In the hip hop culture men are mostly seen as a "pimp" or the "big daddy" of women. Men are viewed as the masters of women and they are the ones that control them. Women in the hip hop culture are always being called "b*tch" and "Ho*s" and men are just trying to use them just to have sex and to be seen as a "pimp".

Thesis:

1. The word "bitch" and "Hoe" are used from men in the hip hop culture to show that they have control over them.

2. Most women in the hip hop culture accept being called "bitch" or "Hoe"

3. To be able to be a good rapper in the hip hop culture, men have to show machismo.

4. Tupac's relationship with afeni helped him develop the love that he had for women.

5. Tupac showed his love for women by writing songs for them.

6. Most rappers refer to women as "bitches" and "Hoes"

Chapter six “Do We Hate Our Women? Talked about how women are viewed through the media, also how they are play toys for men, they feed men’s ego as well as their ideology of masculinity.

Definition: Because men don’t value themselves, their mothers or their family values therefore they would not value themselves.

Analogy: If men really loved their mothers then they wouldn’t treat or talk to women less than human.

Consequence: Tupac never disrespected his mother therefore he didn’t disrespect females. – Ms. Sabir

Thanks to the media the black and brown communities continue to allow women to be degraded and dehumanized and looked upon as objects.

Young boys are being brainwashed at an early age to believe that you have to be tough hard and you must beat your woman to be seen as a real masculine man.

Men sleep around with numerous of women they are praised, as soon as women sleep around with men she then will be seen as nasty and less human.

It is better to kill with your words thought the arts rather then kill people with weapons

The women Tupac choose never accepted him for who he was, if you are seeing someone they should accept you for who you are,

Black and brown males would do better in society if they had ambition and opportunity from a role model that they could look up to.

Chapter 6 Summary/Thesis

In Dyson's "Holler If You Hear Me: Searching for Tupac Shakur", he explains about masculinity and how women are treated and viewed as in Tupac's community. There are derogatory terms that are used for women, especially with the subject of sex. "Bitch" has many meaning. That type of person is considered as one when that person does not want sex. That word could also be used as a term of empowering oneself to some women. Tupac himself has a confused state with women as well in terms of masculinity. With that confusion, Tupac gets himself into problematic situations, including his sexual harrassment charge.

Thesis:
1) Although the word "bitch" is used negatively, black women associate the word as a term of power regardless of its derogative meaning.
2) Through his lyrics, Tupac shows a masculine tone to women, but in reality, has a deeper respect to them.
3) Regardless of Tupac's deep respect to women, they do not view Tupac as the type they would like to date, leaving Tupac confused.
4) Unfortunately, the hip-hop music community continues to degrade women in a sexual and masculine manner, leaving an impressionable mindset for others.
5) Through a deep connection with his mother, Tupac takes in a great respect to women, even if it confuses him in reality.
6) Although the derogatory terms are now used to empower women, others hope the words disappear from people's vocabulary.

"Do we hate our women" chapter 6.

This chapter talked about the feedback on men towards women. Also the differences of why men act the way thet do towards wpmen regarding their masculinity.

Thesis: Although there were differences between Tupac and his mother; Tupac had a sense of tenderness for women.

Thesis: Even though degoratory words are being used against women; many believe that discursive terms can be seized.

Thesis: In order for men in the hip hop industry to show their hardness; women are used against as a target for men to vent their anger upon.

Thesis: Tupac took responsiblity for admitting that he was in fact one of those hip hop artist to not contribute to women in a positive matter.

Thesis: Hip hop viewers feel that if being sensitive to showing respect towards women that albums would not sell, that is a bias instinct used as an excuse to not wanting to be positive and speak of encouragement instead of hatred.

Thesis: Evil is a form of confusion, which is beiong used upon against young people in society that actually beieves it is ok to disrespect people in general.
