Tupac on Election 2008 Cyber-Assignment

Today in class we reflected on Tupac and what he would say regarding Election 2008. Post your reflections here. Please feel free to use Dyson and Rose and any songs of Tupac's like Changes, where he speaks about electoral politics.

Respond to one classmate's post. Each post should be a few paragraphs long. I am looking forward to reading Thomas' and others like Nina and Earnest and Barry, who didn't share.

Oh, if you missed class, remember, you are to share your electoral experience at the polls and tonight with us here.

No point doing this letter because....
...OBAMA...WON...YES!!!! OHH YES!!!!!

To whom ever is concerned (and you should be)

Guess who's back, guess who's back? It's been twelve years? (I lost track) since I was gone. Today, we are making history. Today, we are making a change. This year and the next few years will be ours to remember. November 4th, 2008 is a historic day for us! Didn't I say it was bound to happen? We wanted change, we wanted strength, we wanted to use our voice, and the day we get those oppotunities is today! Exercise your right, your ability to get out and vote!

Some of you people are scared to do so, saying "one vote won't make a differenc," but that bote could determine who will win! Some of you people say "I am supporting this and that," but are lazy to get your butt off of the chair and use your right to vote. I say, don't support at all if you're not going to use what you're given, but if you feel strongly of whatever you're supporting, get out there and vote! We are in a position of making a difference. This time, the country will hear our voice. This time, the politicians will have to listen to us this time!

What I'm trying to say is, we are given a chance to get waht we want. We have the ability to do so. We possess the power to make a difference. My brothers and sisters, we are against the world.

OBAMA-BIDEN!!!! '08. I can take credit because I Barack'd the vote; re-writing history...A CHANGE is gonna come for the HUMAN race...

We live in country of over 300 million and yet only two parties exist to represent us. We grow up and are taught nothing about the true nature of society by our schools looking instead at talking digital fish tanks like Fox News or MSNBC to show us the way. Ignorant to the true nature of money we allow greedy banks founded upon usery to create a system where money does not represent real value of physical goods but a perpetually increasing intangible debt mountain. The type of system anyone with eyes would have seen as one day collapsing into its own bloated mass should only you had the heart to have looked. Born from oblivion; we bear children; ignorant as ourselves; go off into oblivion. We vote on a whim. Standing in line, smiling like fools, pleased at the 2 things they have forced us to choose from. We will light a cigarette and laugh supposing that all is now right, and then we will walk into a movie theater so that we can fall asleep to the real world that is outside, wake up when the show is over, and do it again 4 years later...

there are problems riddled in the inherent nature of our society that run deep like ancient rivers. In a society where I can only vote from 2 selections, fantastically different cosmetically but not radically different implicitly, I will at look down at my ballot and say no. I do not live in a democracy. I will not participate in something that is not.

What would Tupac say?

Well regardless of this election ima say this. Even if Barack Obama does not win, how can we be disappointed? Look how far this black man has gotten and tell me if you are disappointed. But i can also say that it would be disappointing as well because he has come a loooooong way, very long way and for him to lose now its like, "o back to the drawing board again." People do have a right to be disappointed but look how far the black man has come from slavery days. Paint a broad picture and you find out that we will be victorious no matter what. As a matter of fact we are already victorious. This is a sign that black america is moving up slowly but surely. Keep ya head up.
There will always be another day no matter how long it will take. If Obama were to win tomorow, how long would you say it took for a black man to lead this country ever since the first black man came here as a slave. How long did it take for us to finally get our freedom, our voice to be heard, our chance to vote. If Obama wins it will be our time. Our time as a people to rise to the occasion and be ready for anything and expect the unexpected. All things that are good take patience so if Obama wins, that patience will have paid off and damn sure would be worth it. I am glad to be alive during this time of history.

i agree with andrew on people not voting because they think that there voting will not make a difference but it is very very obvious that there vote will count otherwise no ones will count if thats the case. It takes every single vote to really make a difference. Every one. What if Obama and Mcain were tied? all it would take is ONE more vote to determine who is the new president of the United States.

Today is November 4th, 2008. Today is a day that is pretty much regular. I woke up today, like any other day, at around the crack of dawn. The sun was still struggling 2 break through the cotton that was still lingering in the sky. Like all days around this time of year the mornings are especially cold. Cold enough 2 make your skin crawl. Cold enough 2 make you wish you had just stayed in bed. But the sun always shines. Its only so long you could hold something so strong back. Why would you keep getting out of bed unless you had faith in at least that? Why would you keep marching out into that cold, unforgiving world unless you knew that - no matter what - the sun would eventually roll across that empty sky and sit above the world 2 change things. Change is a funny thing. Change always happens. Change is the one thing we can depend on in this world with regularity. Today is November 4th, 2008. Today is a day that is pretty much regular.

Change is good, is it not? I am so relieved that we have a biracial president he is down to earth he is not fake and he wants to change the economy around for the better. There was a time in my life that I did not care about the American flag, but now I look at the flag in a whole new way. I feel like my voice have and will be heard now that we have a democrat in the house. I just pray he get in the white how and handle his business.
If Tupac was alive I think he would be floored that his prophesy came to pass, he stated in one of his songs that “we are not ready for a black president.” The republicans may not be ready but I know the world is ready and have received our first biracial president Barack Obama.

Dear the Hip-Hop community!

Today is a big day to all Americans and the future of this country. Today is the day we making changes in the history book where it said: " All of the Presidents are white males" .its no longer be true because Obama is going to be the president of this country. "We ain't ready to see a black President" yea you know, i wrote that in my song called "Changes". the song is almost 10 years ago, of course right now we are ready to see one. this time is our oppotunities to make that happen. it's time for us to look at other people not by the color of their skins. so everyone, use your voice and make it happens!!!

Tupac Shakur

OBAMA Won!!! yes!! we made it!!!

Tupac would have been overjoyed if he was here to celebrate this moment in history. In the song "Changes" Tupac mentions we as black people werent ready to see a black president...but now we are ready because a change has come and I believe Tupac would've been celebrating just as all Obama supportors are celebrating today.

I Voted!!!!

Tupac would encourage us to vote knowing whats going on in our world today. Even though in his song he stated that we are not ready for a black president.

We have finally made history. But let’s not rejoice because we have a black president. Let’s not put the past behind us as though it never happened. Change is good, but we will never forget our struggles. Let’s rejoice because we have someone to represent us well, and take us to the top. I’d never thought I live to see this day… and I didn’t. “And they say you ain’t great until someone assassinate.” I voted.

What would Tupac say?

Today November 4, 2008 was a great day when Obama won the presidential election. A positive change is coming for all who believes. History was made today that will be marked in the books forever. An African American has become president which no one thought this day would ever come. The outcome of this election made many people mad but it also was exciting for many more. The change that America has been waiting for has finally come.

My vote counted today and I feel as if I have made a difference in our society as well. Many people lined up at the polls today and that made me proud to see because so many people have taken on their rights that many hero's lost their lives for us to do. it made me even more proud after I saw the lines to here the outcome, so many people want change in America and all know that Obama is the one to make that change happen.

I believe a chance was given to us today and we must not blow it. Today’s election has changed America forever and possibly for the better. I am very excited today and I can't wait to watch the change come because it’s been long awaited.
