Yes, We Can...

Today, given the extraordinary circumstances, we met in L-202E to reflect on President-Elect Barack Obama's acceptance speech. By an analysis what I'd like you to do is identify his key point or thesis and the supporting evidence he uses to prove it.

Talk about the rhetorical form of the speech; how does he introduce his topic? What does use to draw in his audience? What compelling examples does he give and what literary strategies help him develop these ideas?

Look at his use of repetition and his acknowledgement of controversy, such as that inherent in the two party system when the other party loses. What does he say about our being one America that makes even the most ardent opponent perhaps stop a minute and listen?

Some say, politics is all a game. Do you think Obama is playing with the American people? Give examples to prove your points.

Sometimes even the most experienced speakers let slip gestures or facial expressions which belie the intent of the words coming from their mouths, that is, the words spoken do not match their body language: eyes, facial expression, gestures. There are many reasons why this is so-- fatigue, distress, or because the person doesn't believe in what he or she is saying.

Is Obama's affect consistent with his message?

Barack Obama Reflection
I think that Barack Obama’ s main point was to ensure the people of America that we’ll prevail through this time of change and that it takes spending a little bit of money to make some money. As President-Elect Barack Obama made his speech I felt as if this man, this human being is listening to what the middle and lower-class people are saying and he is trying to make a difference. I believe he will make changes because he speaks of keeping dreams and hopes alive and one day make a change for the people that he represents, Democrats. He took the main people in his life and campaign and gave wonderful love and a shot out to some of them. He attacks his issues with emphasis for a change. I believe that he will attempt to do everything he says he is going to do but, you have to realize that this nation is in a great deficit and will we be able to bounce back? Barrack can’t be superman but I know this, he has the heart of most Americans and he proved that he belongs in office. Every time he was attacked by Sen. McCain’s campaign he did not respond with a put down as Palin showed she can do. He simply approached the problem head first and spoke up for the people who cannot be heard. He spoke of giving money to everybody whether there middle, low, or even upper class. He wants everything to be equal and affordable. It is not fair to us citizens who do not sufficient funds to suffer while the wealthier get wealthier. We have preached this for years, decades and now there is a change! Barack Obama is the way! The structure of his speech was compelling. After he gave his shot out to the people that helped him the most he got into what he was going to do. He speaks of reaching our nation’s dreams and goals as one. “One nation one people”.

Obama's Welcome Speech

Thesis: If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

He introduces his topic by thanking everyone that has been involved in his presidency to the United States. He shows that he is glad that he is greatly welcomed by many Americans into the White House. He draws attention to his audience by involving everyone, "[...] young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, Black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans, [...]" in his speech. The people of the world are the ones who inspire and helped Obama develop his ideas for us.

Obama points out that even though we have a two party system, Republican and Democratic Party, we are all one. He proves this because in his speech he says that even though we all may not agree with him and many of his decisions; he will still hear us out and tell us the truth about the hard situations that we all might face. Also, some people may not be happy with him, but we all must realize that he realizes the changes that our country needs. He is willing to help us with the changes that are needed, but it will take time to accomplish theses changes.

Even though people may think that politics is a game, I do not believe that Obama is part of it. In my opinion, I don't think that he's playing with the American people because he knows the changes that need to be made. Many Americans know the struggles that Obama has faced in his past. We all in some way, have been through difficulties in life and he's not afraid to show that. He's not ashamed to show us that he's been through many rough times because of the government's decision in the past. He realizes and knows the changes that we must make to help our country become “one” again. All the outrageous deductions from our paychecks from the government, health care problems, and so on, Obama is willing to help prevent this from getting worse. Our country right now is facing a path towards another Great Depression because of the wrong decisions that Bush has made, but I believe that Obama can fix the mistakes that has happened and will learn from it.

Obama's affect is consistent with his message because he does not portray any false assumptions for his fellow Americans. In his speech, he speaks with a lot of pride and dignity. He shows a lot of willingness and courage that America needs today. Many people who seek the help of our country's loss is Obama's gain to prove his words through out his time of presidency. He has a lot of time to prove the changes he is willing to make for our country's best interest and has the fellow American's full support.

Barack Obama's Victory Speech Reflection

In Barack Obama’s acceptance speech he starts off with a saying that told his supporters and everyone listening that anything can happen if we fight for it. In his delivery you can see and feel the positive emotion echoing throughout his speech. He uses repetition in the first few minutes of his speech, “It’s the answer” (Obama), it is the answer to the question, from my point of view, “is it possible?” possible for us to have an African American president. This was the basis of his speech, he emphasizes on the topic of change and how change is possible and that this election is just the beginning of it. I compared this speech to President FDR’s fireside chats, and how he instilled hope in his people, that everything will be alright, (this had taken place during the great depression) now President Obama had done the same to his supporters. He spoke of how long and hard he and his supporters had fought to get to this point, and now they have succeeded. Just like president FDR, I think that if we did not have such a compelling president during the great depression, it would have taken longer for us to have gotten out of it.
He also showed sincerity towards senator McCain,
“He fought long and hard in
this campaign, and he’s fought
even longer and harder for the
country he loves. He has
endured sacrifices for America
that most of us cannot begin to
imagine, and we are better off
for the service rendered by
this brave and selfless leader.
I congratulate him and Gov.
Palin for all they have
achieved, and I look forward to
working with them to renew this
nation’s promise in the months
ahead” (Obama).
He seemed a little modest and did not show the “In your face” attitude. He acknowledges his loss and was very kind about it, and at the end of his statement he also mentions that he would be happy to be working with him. He was very modest and did not show any means of a bad attitude towards McCain and the Republican Party.
He then incorporated history into his speech, and highlighted one women’s story, Ann Nixon cooper, a 106 year old woman who has seen it all, discrimination, wars, women and colored people being denied their rights. He said now she can say she has seen change, that now even African Americans can be leaders. Women can now vote, and that change has happened.
I do not think Obama is playing his American citizens, if he did not care, he probably wouldn’t be running for presidency. This years candidates ran because they wanted one thing, and that was change. Both candidates showed a lot of patriotism for their country. Obama said in the end of his speech
“This is our chance to answer
that call. This is our moment.
This is our time - to put our
people back to work and open
doors of opportunity for our
kids, to restore prosperity and
promote the cause of peace, to
reclaim the American Dream and
reaffirm that fundamental
truth - that out of many, we
are one; that while we breathe,
we hope; and where we are met
with cynicism and doubt and
those who tell us that we
can’t, we will respond with
that timeless creed that sums
up the spirit of a people: Yes
we can.” (Obama).
He incorporated his family and his children too, and it has been proven that family is the most important thing to and individual, he like many other parents want change for their children, they want their children to be able to have a safe place to grow up, and to be able to get all the resources they need in order to be successful and that is why I think he is for real and is not playing the American citizens.
Obama thanked family members and loved ones for his success, and how grateful he is to have this position. He uses the themes of promise and change throughout his speech, and I think that is why people were so compelled to his speech. His speech was wonderfully presented, like my speech teacher said “I’d give him an A”.

I agree with Renee when she had said
"Obama points out that even though we have a two party system, Republican and Democratic Party, we are all one. He proves this because in his speech he says that even though we all may not agree with him and many of his decisions; he will still hear us out and tell us the truth about the hard situations that we all might face."

i like the way she worded it, i also incorportaed this into my reflection but i think she worded it really well.

Renee that was nice. i wish i had read your comment before i jotted mine down. you pointed out that when President-Elect Barack Obama said "everyone" he meant " young, old, disabled, non disabled, rich, poor, republican, democrat, etc... your comment was real informative.

Obamas speech

Obamas speech of victory was a superb one that probably could not get any better than that. I liked how he said that for all of the people who think that dreams cant come true for anybody, that this is proof and history that anything can happen to anyone and he definetly made it clear. That is how he introduced his topic. No matter what the circumstances, if you want to do something then do it no matter how. Many peope who saw him were filled with joy and more hope than they had before. What he uses to draw in his audience is his confidence and his strong voice, and the fact that he said that the most important people and the real leaders are us. We get to choose what is what. Who is president and who is not. He said that the states will always be united and we will not be seen as different races, but as one people who all want the same thing and that is change. That is what makes anyone want to stop and listen to what he has to say.
I dont think that Obama is playing with us because he said that not every problem can be fixed and we all know that. He also says that he promises that he will listen to us especially when there is disagreement and try to fix things as best he can. He says that we did not pick him to win the election and we did not do it for him but because we know that the economy is in a bad situation right now and we need someone to fix it. When he was speaking he looked very real and very serious. He knows the challenges that he will face from this day on but he will stay strong and stay confident and let us know for sure why we picked him as president of the United States!!!!!!!

Barack Obama Victory Speech

Barack Obama has now been elected as the first African American President of the United States. In his victory speech, not only thanks his fellow people for their vote, but motivates America to become a better nation.
In the beginning of Obama’s speech, he presents a background of America and how it has changed throughout centuries. The changes were made by the citizen of America. Obama stated, “It’s the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.”
Promises were made, changes were put into place, and dreams began to form. These dreams and promises have finally become a reality. America has finally reached its highest; an African American has a President of the United States. A dream many have never believed to become a reality.
Obama’s quote has been admitted in many paragraphs of his speech, “Yes We Can.” As our future President, his words must not be words that come out of his mouth, he must prove to America that he will make changes. He inverts a special women, the age of 106, that has gone through many struggles and have seen the many changes that America has gone through in centuries. Obama demostrates her throughout his speech and says
“And tonight, I think about all that she’s seen throughout her century in America - the heartache and the hope, the struggle and the progress, the times we were told that we can’t, and the people who pressed on with that American creed: Yes we can.”
This demonstrates reality in America. A woman that has experienced various difficulties in America and knows when America is finally come to a better change. Equality is an important statement throughout his speech and it is obviously shown.
As a teen, who surprisingly has fallen into the importance of politics, I believe that Barack Obama is a fair candidate for this position. One may not be aware that, as an African American running for the position of the President of the United States, their will be descrimination talked about and unsafe violence ready to attack. However, Barack Obama has continued to run and believes in not only himself, but in America. I believe Obama is not “playing games” with America. If he were to, he would not have continued and win today. What I found very important in his speech was “I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help and I will be your president too.” He is aware of the hatred that most American citizen have put on him, however, he is willing to take the job and listen to what they have to say. He will not judge others or descriminate for their lack of vote, his goal and job is to help all American citizen and create a better nation. I also found it very fascinating that during his speech, he showed no sign of a script or notecard that was provided for him. What he said was coming to the heart, which proves that he is true to his nation. He eyes every American there and wants to prove to them that he is willing to work hard for a better nation.

President Barack Obama

New African American President of the fre world, Barack Obama gave his acceptance speech with great dignity and respect. In his introduction he gave a very compeling and humble speech, thanking everyone who voted and everyone on his campaign for there help and sacrifices. He goes on to draw in the audience by causing everyone to drop all boundaries by saying “young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled” my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gGx3Kc(2nd paragraph).
The Democratic Party and the Republican party have been at negative terms for years on the inner workings of the country, as soon as President Obama beame leader he gave “…let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other.” my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gGx3Kc(16th paragraph). With that in mind not only does Democrat and Republican have to listen but Socialist, Liberal, Conservative, etc...need to realize that not everyone has to be on the same page all the time and that where all the same people.
When speaking about politics you have to look at it from a certain veiw. Most would say that it is a very serious subject that helps keep the well being of citizens in order and at the same time it can be something that appears only people with themselves in mind trying to increase their paycheck (shootout to George W.). So politics to me in my opinion it’s all about how you look at it.
I believe Obama is sincere about what he say’s and will turn out to be the best president we’ve seen so far in our’s and America’s lifetime.

All things are possible

President Obama acceptance speech filled Americans with hope. He spoke of issues that we have been thru and about issues that we will overcome as a nation. He believes that America is a place where all things are possible and that democracy is still alive and strong. Obama believes that Americans ideas are the ones that make the difference in our country and we should stick together as one nation. Change will come to America and has come to America this is a historic moment by electing him we will move towards the hope of a better day. Obama acknowledges Sen. McCain saying he fought hard in this campaign. He said that he looks forward to working with him to renew this nation’s promise in the months ahead. He said that people who would like to tear this world down we will defeat you and to those who seek peace our, country will support you.

Barack Obama's speech was heartfilling in my opinion. He addressed the many people of the United States, "young and old, rich and poor..." and listened to each one of their problems so that he can solve them and make a difference in our imperfect world. There were problems like the War in Iraq, the economy, and many more, that he addressed. His repeition of "yes we can" in the middle of his speech filled the audience with excitement and motivation to make a change. Each "yes we can" built up the people's hopes, each "yes we can" restored us from our gloomy state, and each "yes we can" inspired us that we are able to go through the obstacles. That part of the speech fired me up that night. Even through victory, Barack Obama remained selfless. He expressed McCain as a fighter for America with all his sacrifices through his campaign and the wars he fought. With a heavy amount of issues that he's going to overcome, Barack Obama has the huge potential of solving them.

"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled — Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of red states and blue states; we are, and always will be, the United States of America."

-[I really like this part of his speech, because he addresses to everyone in the U.S.. With this in mind, he is talking to me as well. He wanted to indvidually talk to people. We are Americans, is what he was trying to say.]

"But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to — it belongs to you."

-[We wanted him to win. We wanted this victory and at the end, we received what we wanted. We wanted Barack Obama as president. This sense of victory, the fact that we won him as our president because we wanted him to be, was what he was talking about.]

"I know you didn't do this just to win an election, and I know you didn't do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the task that lies ahead. For even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime — two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century. Even as we stand here tonight, we know there are brave Americans waking up in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan to risk their lives for us. There are mothers and fathers who will lie awake after their children fall asleep and wonder how they'll make the mortgage, or pay their doctor's bills, or save enough for college. There is new energy to harness and new jobs to be created; new schools to build and threats to meet and alliances to repair."

-[He addresses the issues we have in this country of ours. He assured us that we will fight through these obstacles to make our home better. When he addressed these issues in his speech, I felt connected in some ways. He was really selfless in this part of the speech which made me really excited.]

I turn on my Tv to watch the show. Inside the glowing square box a blue light comes out to wrap me in its glowing blue blanket. It sucks me quietly through the screen. I don't protest. The world inside my Tv is mad. The flashing lights make me squint and the loud noises make me confused. I smile. I look around and see other people here. Impeccably dressed, they argue like children. Screaming, yelling, rolling, bursting; sometimes I have no idea what any of them are even saying. Somewhere inside me there is a voice that wonders if they are even saying anything at all. I quickly hush that voice. The lights dim and the stage clears. Then a man walks to the front. Beneath him a sea of faces gaze up like dandelions wafting in a breeze. The symphony roars and a halved smile cracks across his mouth. His name is Barrack Obama. He is our new leader. I wonder what it must be like to be him. My dad always used to say how men like him were only big business corporations masquerading in the body of a smiling, nicely dressed person. But I figure he must have been wrong because everyone seems to love him. I guess I should love him too. He opens his mouth and the sea of faces beneath him falls so hush you could hear clouds scraping against clouds. His voice trumpets out, piercing the air. Beautiful promises glide from his lips musically. Entranced; I am put under his drum; numb under his spell. He speaks about the things I pretend I haven't been lied to about before. Things like change, hope, and unity. My heart opens. I breathe a sigh of conclusion. Finally, things will be Ok. Then somewhere inside of me a voice wonders if he will make good on all of his promises. If he really will make a difference. I quickly try to hush the voice. But I can't this time. It rustles inside the back of my mind the way dead leaves stir in the wind. I am torn. I turn off my Tv and I am whisked back to reality. Here in the real world where actions speak louder than words.

Measure OO passed, yes!

Measure OO is a measure that funds after-school programs. My group that I work in, AYPAL (Asian/Pacific Islander Youths Promoting Advocacy and Leadership), on this Measure for about three years or so. What it does is support after-school programs like AYPAL, and other groups in Oakland (YEP (Youth Employment Partnership), YT (Youth Together), EBAYC (East Bay Asian Youth Center), Lao Family, YU (Youth Uprising), SAYLEC (Southeast Asian Youth Leadership Employment Community) and many more.) The measure funds these programs indefintely. The idea of an infinite spending time would seem like a bad idea, but it's only taking a small piece of the budget that Oakland has. To tell you the truth, it's still not enough to sustain these groups. There were a lot of oppositions with this measure, including (uh, I don't think I should name the groups, considering some people might be in it). Throughout our years, AYPAL and other groups joined a coalition called Kids First 2 (Kids First was the first coalition to work on the same measure back in 1996). With the coalition, we've done rallies, marches, conferences, speeches, and block parties to inform the people about this measure.

President-Elect Barack Obama

In his acceptance speech,Barack Obama starts by acknowledging the historic accomplishment that we have made as a nation by electing him as our president. He thanked all of the people who supported him and believed in him including the love of his life Michelle Obama.

He draws in his audience by being prepared, by presenting himself with confidence, sincerity and when he refers to Americans of all races, sexual orientation and those who are disabled and the able body.

It is clear that under Obama's leadership he will attempt heal this wounded nation and bring people together as he struggles with our dying economy and these ill fated wars that the republicans will leave him with. He appeared to be honest and and realistic and demonmstrated this when he stated, "there will be set backs and false starts" this to me is an example of him not trying to mislead Americans. He assured us that he would do his best and will always be honest with us. His sincerity is compelling. He reached out to those voters that did not vote for him and asked for their help and support. He is truly a president for the people.

His speech inspired me and many other Americans. He left me feeling excited, hopeful and willing and ready to support him through the highs, the lows and the hurdles. No matter what challeges he face I believe that he will always remain presidential.

Barack Obama is honest, sincere and gratious. He will be an example of a true leader, Americans will be proud that they chose him.

Proposition 92

Proposition 92 would make funding for the schools and community colleges to be calculated seperately. If the proposition 92 passed it would make the community colleges and schools to have an independent system, they would be seperately calculated. Also if it passed it would reduce the community college fees from $20 a unit to $15 a unit. If this doesn't pass then the systems will stay the same.

Proposition 1A

Proposition 1A would make a railroad for a 800 mile high speed train that would run from san francisco to los angeles in about 2hours with 40 minutes. If this proposition passes they would start building the rail for the train that would cost around $9 billion dollars of general obligation bonds and it would be ready until the year 2030. If it doesn't pass then everything is going to stay the same. Nothing is going to happen because the railroad would not get build.

"Obama's acceptance speech"

The thesis on obama's acceptance speech is: "If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer"(Obama).

Obama seemed really confident and honest when he was saying his acceptance speech. He started his speech by first thanking all of his fellow americans and all of the people that helped him, joe biden, his campaign, and his wife michelle obama. He also said that he wants to congratulate McCain and Palin for all of their hardwork, "I congratulate him and Governor Palin for all they have achieved, and I look forward to working with them to renew this nation’s promise in the months ahead" (Obama).

When Obama was talking to his audience he said that he was talking to everyone by saying "young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled" (Obama). He was also saying that we will make a change for this country and that we will make that change by working together and "We may not get there in one year or even one term" (Obama) but we will definately get there.

Obama also stated that in our country there is the democratic party and the republican party but that doesn't mean that we are seperated “We are not enemies, but friends" (Obama) so we will always be one because we are all america. "in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people" (Obama).

In the final part of his speech he always ended his sentences with "Yes We Can" (Obama). He was doing this to try to motivate people that we are going to be able to accomplish the change that we need. While he was giving his speech he told everyone an example of change, he talked about 106 year old lady named Ann Nixon Cooper. Obama was saying that we already started to make a change and that if we want to see more, we have to work together as one.

The Passing of Prop 8
Most Californians understand the meaning of Prop 8, but to those who do not, Proposition 8 believes that marriage should only be between a man and a women. Thus denying the rights of gay and lesbian couples to get married. The passing of this prop has upset me deeply.

When searching through numerous newspaper articles on the day of November 5th, I had found out that proposition 8 had passed. Each article i had read shared on common phrase and that was "Homosexuality is a choice", and this had angered me. People do not chose to be gay or lesbian, it is just how they are. While watching a documentary, i saw how many homosexual individuals tried to change themselves to fit in, i also saw how they were abused and even killed by homophobic people who thought that love between a man and a man or a women and a women as sinful. Just a couple of weeks ago many homosexual couples in California were allowed to marry, this included famous talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. The passing of this prop made many couples unable to legally get married.

People should not be told who they can marry, its like having a parent tell you that it is wrong to marry the person you love. In my opinion i believe that everyone should have the right to marry whomever they want, it is their choice, not the governments. I hope that in the future this prop will be abolished and homosexuals will once again have their right to get married.

California propositions

Proposition 8 passed and will eliminate the rights of same sex partners to marry. The passing of this proposition will amend California's Constitution to define marriage as an act between a man and a woman. This overturns the recently same sex rights that was won by gay couples.

For me the passing of proposition 8 is similar to banning marriage between interracial couples, which was a previous practice in the United States. I believe the passing of this proposition is a set back for equality.

Proposition 4 would require a waiting period and parental consent for minors to have an abortion.

I'm pleased that this proposition did not pass. This could have set us back to when babies were being found dead in dumpsters or pregnant teens were concealing their pregnancy in fear of their parents responses.Teens should be able to make their own choices around child birth. However, we must teach our kids about sex, pregnancy and prevention. Contraceptives should be made available in the schools and in homes.

Proposition 9 increases the rights of crime victims and allows a victims safety to be considered when a judge is determining bail or parole release. Prop 9 also will reduce the number of times that an offender can come before the parole board.

Victims will be able to live their lives and feel safr that the person that committed a crime against them will remain in jail and that they can be more participatory in the process.

Barack Obama

The three words that keep me uplifted “Yes We Can!” a slogan from our new President Barack Obama. This years election, has been the most talked about, because we had our first woman and African American male being a runner for to be elected for President. On Tuesday, November 4, 2008 we all made a difference and voted. By a great landslide, we as a people got our first African-American/Caucasian President. His speech was very authentic and he spoke to the people as he was one of us who voted. Some people say, what is the fuss it is not like Barack Obama is going to start walking on water, but neither did our former presidents. Barack Obama, is aware that we still have struggles that we have to face and is going to take work. Yet, some one has to help lead us to our change. He says, “who will still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer” and yes many people doubt him being President.

As he talked, he recognizes us all as a people. Obama is now President, but he is also one of us, so his speech very personable. He did not grow up with a silver spoon, so he is relatable and that is why he was elected. I personally, feel that Barack Obama was nervous, but he had faith, because he is human that is just of our nature. Even though, he is in power, he acknowledges all the people who helped him get to the point of becoming a President. I admire his class, as he respectfully acknowledge his fellow candidates and he did not have to do it the way he did. Our new President symbolizes change and peace. Our history repeats itself just like life, but by the year we see change for the better, for a better common goal of peace. He stayed on point, while explaining his journey and the journey that he plans on to pursue. His plans on having more equality within the country for every single ethnicity, old, young, disable no matter their situation. President Obama talks on the fact that we are not just not "blue and red states" we are all one. He is basically saying that, being apart of the democratic or republican party does not matter, were just a country as a whole. He knows that he can not just come and clean up the mess that we are currently in and he is aware that it will take work. The work will consist of the country working as a team while he leads us. I am happy to see Obama living in his Grandmother's dream. It motivates me to do the same and not have any excuses for failing.

Obama’s Acceptance Speech
Reflection

In Obama's acceptance speech, he begins by thanking everyone who supports him throughout his presidential campaign. He thanks his family who always stands by his side and gives him the support he needs. He also thanks one of his so called "rivals" at the beginning of the campaign for the inspiration to his daughters, Hillary Clinton. I like when he point out that we may be Democrats and Republicans and independents but we have not served a red America or a blue America; we have served the United States of America. Those words are really powerful because they bring everyone together to be here as Americans, not single individuals from different party.

He draws in his audience by the confidence and being prepared. He refers to everyone by saying:"young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled." We are the people who have the real power, and decide who the president is.

Obama gives us the hope for our future. He is going to lead us out of this dying economic under the Bush regime. We have seen the price of gas has double than it was five years ago. We have seen the unemployment rate reached as high as we can imagine. Obama is going to make a change for this country and that we will make that change by working together, he also say that "We may not get there in one year or even one term" but we will get there.

People say that politics is all a game. I don't believe Obama is playing a game with the American people. He works hard and he deserves it. Long before he becomes president, he had stood by side of men and women on the South Side of Chicago fought for two decades ago after the local steel plant closed. We chose him not because the color of his skin, but we chose him because he's going to change America and bring us to a bright future ahead.

I really like his speech. He is another Martin Luther King of modern day. About almost 40 years ago, Martin Luther King led African Americans fight for their rights against discrimination. Now, Obama is going to lead us fight for the future of the United States of America.

Obama Uses change to draw in his audience; people are tired of the same mess that happen year after year horrible president after horrible president. The main point that really got me is when he said “this is not about me it’s about you. That statement made me feel goo, finally there is a president that hears my voice and wants to make a better world for myself and my family. He is real to his word, I don’t feel a false hope from him, I look forward to seeing what Obama will do I pray that he was not all talk , get in the white house and handle business. He told the world that “anything can happen if you fight for it.” Obama will make a swell president he has experience and he has seen the mistake from previous presidents, so he knows what needs to be done.

My experience at the polls was great I was one of the first in line to vote for Obama. I felt very powerful because I knew that my one vote would make a difference. This was my first time voting and it was very exciting to have the experience. When I got my ballot I glanced at it for a while because I remember back in the day blacks didn't have the right to vote but because of many confident strong people that gave their lives I had the right to vote. It was a great feeling to be able to go out and vote and I can’t wait for the next four years to be able to re-elect Obama!

Victory Speech

It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disable — Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of red states and blue states; we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

- This specific speech talked about how the weak and the strong, the old and the young, the people of the United States given a new day to the world to see. Not about the history but the outcome of the world to see. The change of the new world and a beginning of a new era comes to.

That's the true genius of America: that America can change. Our union can be perfected. What we've already achieved gives us hope for what we can and must achieve tomorrow.
- This speech referred to how we, the people, have already changed the world and how we can change it more in the good of the nation. What we reach on our own, we can do it again the next day and the next cause we can succeed everything we put our mind to.
The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even in one term. But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there.

-this saying is telling us that no matter how long it takes to reach our destination and how far up we have to go to get there, being that we, the people of the United State of The American, is close and having no doubt in getting now.
