1 Paragraph Summaries of 1 page of the Inaugural Address

The early class worked in groups on summarizing select sections of the Address. We didn't finish, so please post your 1 paragraph summaries of your page of the Inaugural Address here.

Students in the afternoon class practiced summarizing after a brief discussion of the Address. We pulled out vocabulary to discuss and define. We also looked up "Father of our Nation," to see if the reference was to Washington or not, and it was.

The numbers indicate paragraphs in the handouts; the first number is the page number.

Vocabulary: recrimination (1:8), dogma (1:8), inevitable (1:6), Scripture (1:9). We discussed the terms: forbearer, ancestor, and founding fathers (I asked where the Founding Mothers were). Obscure (2:1), leisure (2:1), Gettysburg, Normandy, Khe Sanh, Concord, (Port Chicago); commerce (2:6), wield (2:7), fascism (3:3), communism (3:3)--we also included: capitalism, socialism, democracy. Prudent (3:3), emanates (3:3), alliances (3:3), expedience (3:2), levees (4:3), patriotism (4:4), grudgingly (4:4)), accept (4:4). I included the word often confused with accept, except.Generation (5:1), hardship (5:1), virtue (5:1).

Homework
Homework is to bring in the book, Dreams from My Father. We will write a summary of the Preface and talk about the Introduction. You can read both in advance if you'd like to get ahead. Bring in Stewart Pidd also, if you have the book. We will be using it Wednesday.

Remember to comment on one classmates post. In the early class we looked at themes or issues the President raised in his speech. You can share your list with commentary here also.

The other freewrite was to the following prompt: List 5 personal goals for the semester. Secondly, choose 2 and discuss how you plan to achieve them. Complete the narrative plan for the other three for homework. Keep these plans in your notebook and check them off when accomplished. Do not share on the blog.

President Barack Obama’s inaugural address

The day Barack Obama was officially under oath as our new President of the United States of America, he delivered a very strong, hopeful, and reassuring message to all of his fellow citizens, we the people of America. He said, “How grateful he is for the trust we have bestowed and is mindful of the sacrifices borne by our ancestors. He spoke the truth in a respectful and professional manor as he said, “Every so often the oath is taken amidst, gathering clouds and raging storms.” He mentioned how America is in the midst of crisis, our nation is a war, the network of violence, and hatred, our economy is badly weakened from consequences of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, failure to make choices. The homes people have lost, jobs that have been shed, business shuttered, how we use energy, strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

He answers yes to intend to move forward and no programs will end. America is a friend of each nation and to all who seeks a future of peace, dignity, and ready to lead once more, mark this day with remembrance of who we are and how we have traveled. We were tested, we refused to let this journey end, we did not turn our back nor did we falter, with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations. Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America.

In president Barack Obama's inaugural address, he states that; "today I say to you that the challenges we face are real, they are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this America: They will be met."One of our greatest concerns are, our economy. It has been hit hard and is a challenge we must face today; partly from mismanagement and greed. We face the fact that our health care is too expensive, and not available to thughes who need it. Our country is at war, where we must create peace. Also evidence shows that global warming is stronger every day, and we must find ways to conserve and make new energy. We must come together as a country and set our differences aside. To face our fears and to continue on, as the great nation that we are.

INAUGURAL ADDRESS SUMMARY

In this inaugural address, barack Obama expresses his gratitude by thanking President Bush for his time in office, and being supportive and helpful through this time of triumphant change.

Barack Obama expresses in this inaugural adress that there has been 44 americans who have stood for and taken under this country, and it many times it;s been through tumultuous turns and events. He explains that the past, future, and present has all taken place because we the people believed, believe, and are still beliving in America.

Our nation is overcome with anger, violence, and hatred and it has finally come to the surface, it is now staring at us in the face. The obstacles that are now inevitable to ignore are becoming serious and it's time to take charge.
Everyday, every second, someone is losing their home, someone is being killed, someone is watching their company go out of business, someone is failing school, someone is not getting their needed healthcare because our economy is so bad, and its from neglect and not being aware of things around us.
Barack says that America is going under, and it is partially our fault for not seeing what the underlying problem is and stopping it before it got worse. Barack wants to make sure that we know that although we are facing many problems, they can and will be tackled but not with ease or overnight.
He says that people are trying to take control of things by setting unrealistic goals and dreaming dreams that will not come true, so it is time, for us as a whole to come together and get real about what's going on in front of us.

And I am proud to say that I am one of tem. I have gone through his inaugural address many times. Here goes the summary of thei first page of his inaugural address.

He starts his speech with humble salutation to the citizens. He thanks to the citizens, ancestors and President Bush. He starts his words form the Presidential Oath. Before him, America had forty-four presidents. Many oath were taken for the peace, for solving the problems and for the country. People’s skills, faithfulness towards the forebears ad true finding documents is vision able. Thus, he expects same for the present America. He talks about the present situation fo America. Its very bad and going through the crisis. The economical situation of America is badly affected. Most of the economy has been used in the war. This made other aspect of country weak. Many people started loosing their jobs and lots of business has stopped working and this made people to loose their house. In the same way an expensive school and health care and over use of natural resources is also responsible for the crisis. As per President Obama, still very much remained to happen and at that time no one can do anything infact, there will be no any options. But, President Obama is positive towards this situation. He focuses to the challenge which is in real and request to accept it. Challenges are not so easy and simple but as a citizen of America we can overcome it. He fills the belief inside the people saying that America will meet these problems.

He proclaims to end all those false promises and the complaints because these things has affected the politics a lot. He wants to arose a new belief on people towards politics. He requests all of us to put over childishness aside and go ahead to face this problem to overcome it, to follow the words of bible and to make the nation once again the young nation.

The challenges we are facing are the facts of our nation, these are serious facts, and we all have to face it as a nation to help one another to get back on our feet.
