I Need Love; Love Themes from "Dreams"
Today in the early class we read I Need Love (146-148) and then discussed it. The early class was more talkative than the other afternoon class. In the morning class, students also presented their objects which represented love. Most students described their objects in terms of philia--the majority photos or mementos or keepsakes from family or close friends.
I read the LL Cool J lyrics to the early class and played the song for the later class. If you are interested in reading the lyrics, I have posted them in the comment section of this post.

Homework is to complete the Stewart Pidd essay 1 (32-51). I forgot to give you the MLA handout, but you can find it on pp. 302-305 (do the exercises). We reviewed one of the paragraphs. The paragraphs identifying the six errors are the paragraphs that form the body of the essay. The introduction is written from the answers to the questions on page 46; don't forget to answer the last question--it is your thesis sentence. The only creative part of the exercise is the title. The conclusion is also a paint by numbers exercise.
You can earn an A if you follow directions and pay attention. We will have a peer review on Wednesday, and a quiz on certain concepts.

Read Obama's Dreams up to Chicago (132). Keep a reading log for each chapter: note the vocabulary, themes, characters, and any literary devices you'd care to note, like the author's use of analogies or comparisons.

I asked students to identify the passages where the theme occurred and what kind of love it was: eros, philia, or agape. The assignment for Feb. 18 is changed to Wednesday, Feb. 25. The afternoon class can make their presentations next week, 2/18 and we can have make up in the morning class also, for Love as object assignment.

‘I need love’
Love is essential for every living beings. Lack of love makes life miserable. But in today’s world the word love has became scary word. People runs far away from Love. Why do they do so? Love is a boon in anyone’s life. Loving cannot be a sin. Love is not a dirty thing. Yes, in today’s world it’s taken as a dirty game. But its not the love that is sully, its people who are making it dirty. I have read an advice from LL Cool u titled ‘ I Need Love’. It erased my mind which was against love. I used to think love as a wasteful thing. Infact it is not. LL Cool j asked,” So why do we avoid love like its dressed in blue and issuing warrants? And why do sully, adulterate and screw it up, blame it for failed relationships and, charge the emotion wit a life sentence.” Writer just want to say that don’t blame love for all those misunderstandings, cheating and falseness that is in ones relationship. Love can never die. Though the relationship exists or not love will live for ever in heart. If you are in love, you can never heat your love. If you hate love you are not in love. So you can’t blame love for not going your relationship smooth because you were never in love. Finally I want to say that love is the wonderful feeling that anyone can feel and it will never die.

‘I need love’

I Need Love
In “I need Love”, it talks about how it feels to be in love and she also mentions her experience of being in love. Felicia Pride said “Forget what you heard: money, power, and respect, combined, can’t touch the power of love.” (pg 147) I think this quote is really strong and true. When she had added her own experience of love, it makes me think that this really support her point of explaining the meaning of love.

I really enjoyed reading “I Need Love” by Felicia Pride because she wrote some things in there that I can relate to for example how she’s been hurt a couple times. Felicia says, “There’s nothing more fly than sharing your world with someone who’s got you, mind, body, and soul.”(146) I agree with her, it’s the best feeling to love and be loved and to share everyday with that person is such a great feeling. I have came across few people who has said to me once that they didn’t need love and they were independent and I always wondered why don’t they need love? Do they not like the feeling of being loved? Because I’d probably be devastated if I didn’t have my boyfriend here to love and love me in return.

When LL Cool J, uses the word revelation describing Love, that shows it means a lot to him. Love means the same to me as it does to him wether it is good or bad love. Love is a learning process that starts off from learning from relationships. Relationships with yourself, family, girlfriend, boyfriend, work, friends etc,. Every girl always wants the perfect girl just like boys want their perfect girl. But everybody knows, even LL Cool J realizes, that is just living in a fantasy world to be able to get that. Everything that he wrote, is something that I can relate to with love. Also, everything he saying is something that I appreciate in a man. A man being a man, but yet with a sensitive side.

I really enjoyed reading this article by Felicia Pride. Everyone needs love. Being love or loving someone is a beautiful thing in this world. It doesn't really matter if you have a lot of friends and family. You have to need a love from someone special. It's a great and totally a different feeling than your friends and family love.

In todays world, it means all sorts of different things. For instance teenagers say "i love you" to a best friend to express how much they care about them. I believe that the meaning of love has been abused. "Love" is sometimes said to a boy/girlfriend to receive something greater in the end. Saying "i love you" is a big step in any relationship, and I believe that it should be taken with the most caution. You never know how the other person takes the meaning of love the same way you might.
