English 201 afternoon class

Today students who hadn't read Chapter 3 did so, while the two students who'd completed their reading discussed the chapter and answered questions on the board. We reviewed Pronoun Case and identified the errors in SPHE for Essay Exam 1: Synthetica. Students will write the essay on Wednesday, Sept. 30. You will have 50 minutes for the essay and the same for the Grammar Exam 1. Come to class with the templates completed. If you need help ask for it in advance. Go to the Writing Center or Tutoring Center.

Today we also reviewed Ellipses in SPHE. I gave students a quiz to take home. We did the Pronoun Case Quiz and the Pronoun Agreement Quiz.

Homework was to continue reading Holler. Students received chapters 4-6. This weekend you will have questions to answer related to the chapters, two questions per chapter minimally.

We'll complete essay 3 next week. I think it is the Be Verb Essay. We'll start Parallel Structure in class and it will be due the following week on Monday for peer review.

Chapter 3 references a few good arguments in which Tupac has with society.
One of his arguments is that what they’re teaching in the schools is not enough education for kids. Per Tupac, children are taught the basics from society standards, but they are not the basics that prepare our young for the real world. Tupac’s argument in regards to the teaching of foreign languages is, he thinks children should be taught politics, “Double Talk” as he calls it. The teachings of foreign language in his eyes, is useless. He feels when will the poor youth of America get a chance to visit these foreign countries, to exercise the languages taught? How will their parents or caretakers be able to fund these trips when most are unable to make rent? He expresses his low tolerance for the lack of importance given by educational officials when it comes to the black youth.
Leila Steinberg was a white jewish girl who was a dancer, teacher and promoter working who also helped promote her husband career as a DJ. She took an interest in trying to get the poor youths around the city to explore their minds by opening up workshops and teaching poetry. To Tupac she was an eager ear, ready to listen to anything that came out of his mouth. She felt Tupac was the most brilliant young man she had ever met. Leila expresses in “The Rose That Grew From Concrete” that Tupac was her motivation, that his spirit gave her breath. She thanks Afeni for sharing Tupac with her and the world and proclaims that in his memory she will continue to do his work.
Because of his thirst for knowledge, Tupac read books by many different cultured writers and authors. I believe he was interested in these people so that he could understand their knowledgeable points then argue you them. He liked observing where their heads were. From these readings Tupac incorporated their opinions and conclusions with his, which enabled him to comprehend all the talents and ground himself. He embraced informative literature because it made him think and question himself, the authors and others. I feel literacy saved Tupac because when he was reading or writing that was the only time he was able to find himself, be himself, and live in reality.

Going thru the tittles that the author mentioned of the books Tupac read not any did I peek out that read Malcolm X. Leila Steinburg as stated in chapter three said tupac and her were "literary soul mate". Obvioulsy Tupac was a big impact in Leilas life and vice versa. She was also going to be his manager and did plenty of reading and poetry together. Leila is thankful for 2pacs emergence in her life. She will continue to take his portion of his soul that he did not take with him. Even though 2pac was a high school drop out he was hungry for knowledge. He always devoured book after book and challenged peoples mind. It was an example he wanted to set for his kids his age at the time that being educated was being aware of the world and situations within. Factors like reading and writing save him bacause of his intellegen to go forward in life and be noticed by other people.

In Chapter 3 Tupac would read alot of books and also wrote poems too. He would also say things to people and make them realizd that they should teach their class differently. They would change to be a better person and a parent.

Tupac said about having classes to teach other people. Such as class on drugs, sex education, scams, religious, police brutality, aparthid, racism in America and the last thing is a class on why people are hungry.

Tupac also talked about political things. Also he would use critical thinking methods, such as if his friends wanted to go out to a party and they don't have a car and they wanted to steal a car.Tupac would say they would go to jail for sixteen years and come out and be bitter.

Tupac liked to read everything, and he was also hungry for knowledge. His mother made him read the new york times when he was younger. When Tupac was on the road he would read books and magazines. When he would be interviewed he would also quote passages from books and he would also quote lines from a favorite movie that he liked.

Leila Steinberg is a jewish woman who worked as a dancer and a teacher who held workshops. In her workshops they would work on poetry and self-expression for the poor teenagers around the city.

Steinberg said that Tupac changed the way she was teaching in her class. She also said that he cahnged her as a parent and a woman.

Steinberg said that Tupac can recite sonnets and Tupac did class projects that blew her away. She also said that Tupac had alot of talent in her workshops. She also put in effort in creating Tupac poems into a book when he passed away. The book is called The rose that grew from concrete.

Chapter 3: No Malcom X in mt Text

The title "No Malcom X in my Text" references to our history teachings in the public school system. We were not thought about real situations, such as sex, drugs, police brutality, abuse and religious cults. Also foriegn lanuages were good to know, but most proverty strictened people would never be able to go to those countries. In America we should be taught more english so we could understand the double-talk of politics.
Leila Steinburg was a mentor and close friend to Tupac. She worked with inner-city youth in the school systems in Northern California. She was also a dancer and love the arts so she started a non-profit organization for children and youths to exhibit talents. There was dance, acting, poetry, rappers and any other form of art. Leila tells Tupac thanks for allowing her to do his work with all of her soul that Tupac did'nt take with him.
I think that the passion that Tupac had for reading saved him. Especially, since he did not graduate from high school. Tupacs fond interest from so many different types of books such as:Carl Jung, Siemond Frued, and many others. He broaden his horizons to life and education. When I think about how Pac read it is almost as though he self-educated himself.

Analysis and Key Points (Chapter3)

When Tupac was in school, he was not taught about Malcolm X and many other black legends or heroes. Tupac said,"... that the students should be informed about social issues, sex education, frauds, apartheid, and finally yet importantly people going without food. Tupac was keen on educating children stating,"...more kids are being handed crack than they’re being handed diplomas?” Leila Steinberg, worked with the less fortunate children in the city of Watts, Los Angeles. She went to an all black school. She insists that she never related to her roots on both sides. She also led workshops that proved to be beneficial to many children. Tupac and her read and enjoyed talking about what they gathered from each reading. She say,”He did a class project that blew me away, where he did his own 1990’s version of one of Shakespeare’s plays.”That’s why I think we have to study Tupac in every university.”
He self taught himself, by reading countless books, magazines and articles in newspapers. The Tupac read and visited these places in his mind, in returned inspired him to explore many other titles. Tupac fulfilled his desire for knowledge, because he was destined to be great from the womb. She embraced the fact that Tupac cared and advocated for the poor and wanted to emphasize on education more in the schools. She was also intrigued by his love of exploring music that expanded beyond his rap lyrics. Learning to read and enjoy different readings, she found that to be cliché coming from a rapper and all. That is what made him a great artist too.
He had wisdom way beyond his years. Tupac encountered and endured many hardships, being on the move constantly. He never completed his schooling. He needed something to fall back on. His love of reading and searching for more knowledge helped him relate to everything that was going on in the world. During his lifetime, Tupac has inspired so many children and adults to peruse the love of reading, poetry and rapping. Taught by the Black Panthers and a street well-informed mom, put him in a transitional place at all times. Brilliance was born; the page in history has been torn, and Tupac will always be adorned.

In chapter 3 Tupac makes a couple of well thought of arguments about the short comings of the educational system. One of his arguments was how the educational system can become repatative and boring discourging students like himself from learning. He makes a great point when he says "they tend... to teach you to read, write, and [do] arithmetic, then teach you reading and writing and arithmetic again, then again, then again." This statement is an accurete reflection of how many students and Tupac feel coming up threw our educational system. Something else Tupac points out is how schools get caught up with teaching the same curriculem in the same way even when the curriculm is out of date and not useful to its youth he says "I think that we get so caught up in school being a tradition that we stopped using it as a learning tool, which it should be." Tupacs point of view and arguments are from a students point of view and really describe what im sure many students have felt and are feeling coming up threw are education system.
The title of this chapter of the book is "No Malcolm X in My History Text" I bealive Malcolm X is definitley somebody that everyone should study and isnt in most textbooks. I think this is connected to this chapter because Malcolm X and many other things that young african americans should be learning is missing from our textbooks tupac states some of these things "There should be a class on drugs. There should be a class on sex education, a real sex education class, not just pictures and diagrams and illogical terms...There should be a class on scams...There should be a class on double talk etc."
Leila Steinberg was a white jewish teacher who worked and open workshops around the city to open up the young creative minds of the poor youth. She also helped promote her husband as Dj. It seemed almost like faith that she ran into a young ambitious Tupac who at 17 years old made a huge impact and changed the life of a grown women she says "I've been teaching now for the last fourteen years,.. and pac changed my teaching. He changed who i am as a women and as a parent, because as pac entered our group, he took a lot of my infantile thought processto the next level." The biggest role they played in each other lives was probly there commitment and love for books. M.E Dyson claims they were even literary soul mates. Tupacs reading and vast knowledge of books is what shaped him to be who he was. He had a huge library and he was educated in evry major and most subjects. He wanted his reading to rub off on the people he was around, other rappers and all of his fans.
