Regret, Redemption, Responsibility

Cyber-Assignment

Today in the afternoon class we wrote a short essay using the song, "So Many Tears" and the poem, "No Win." Homework was to write a three paragraph essay using a theme from a poem in Rose. Each paragraph should be minimally five sentences long. Use the poem as evidence to prove your thesis. Try to incorporate a paraphrase, a block quote and a in-text citation in the short essay if you can. Don't force it, if it doesn't work.

Post here.

Homework is to continue in Pidd. We will write the Parallel Structure essay Monday. There is no class Wed., Nov. 11. Start the SV Agreement or Section 9 in SPHE. Buy your books tomorrow, they should be in at the COA bookstore.

Regret, Redemption, Responsibility

In the song, "So Many Tears," Tupac writes about the regrets a gang member feels about his participation in a violent lifestyle as he wonders if the consequences will follow him into a life after death. He asks God to take away his pain, guilt and unhappiness and to forgive him for all the lives he has taken. "Now I'm lost and I'm weary, so many tears," he says.

I'm suicidal, so don't stand near me
My every move is a calculated step, to bring me closer
to embrace an early death, now there's nothin left
There was no mercy on the streets, I couldn't rest
I'm barely standin, bout to go to pieces, screamin peace
And though my soul was deleted, I couldn't see it
I had my mind full of demons tryin to break free
They planted seeds and they hatched, sparkin the flame
inside my brain like a match, such a dirty game
No memories, just a misery
Paintin a picture of my enemies killin me, in my sleep
Will I survive til the mo'nin, to see the sun
Please Lord forgive me for my sins, cause here I come...(Tupac Shakur).

If the character has no intention of stepping down or quitting the game, why should God forgive him? Are his tears an omission of guilt and sorrow over the lives lost as well as his own?

In his book, The Rose, Tupac addresses the dilemma his protagonist faces: redemption juxtaposed with responsibility. He writes in "No Win": "If I must kill I will and if I must do it again/ I would [,]but the situation is a no win" (143).

The protagonist in Tears is having nightmares. He is at the end, he can't take it anymore, he's asking for help out of his fire situation. Similarly, in the film, Bastards of the Party, then Bloods gang member, Cle Sloan begins to question the violence claiming so many friend's lives in his neighborhood. He asks older gangsters where it all started and they don't know. This search for the answer to his question leads Sloan to a new truth, a new peace, which is the same place So Many Tears could possibly lead the gangster depicted in the song.

A Fallen Angel: Gone To Soon

In the poem “In The Event Of My Demise” (150) written by Tupac Shakur speaks about his death. He states, “I hope I die for a principle or a belief that I have lived for”. I believe he hoped that his death would have purpose. I know that his life has touched and intrigued many people. Because all over the United States professors at colleges and universities; teachers at high and jr. high schools are teaching on the prophecy of his life.
I believe Tupac was a prophet. He states, “I will die before my time because I feel the shadow’s of depth”. This is the gift of discernment. The meaning of discern is to see things through the spirit of the naked eye. Unfortunately, Tupac’s spiritual immaturity lead his flesh, in which lead to sin and eventually and early death.
“In The Event Of My Demise” the poem confirms his discernment. He says, “in the occurrence of his death, he has accepted the possibilities and has wiped the last tears from his eyes”. I think Tupac was finally at peace with his dysfunctional lifestyle. He may not have been the best role model for our youth, but he tried his best to do right with the unfair hand life have dealt him. Tupac was only twenty-five years old when he was killed, he had so many accomplishments that were not fulfilled, but in his short life he has definitely left a legacy that will live forever.

Sometimes I cry

In the poem "Sometimes I cry" Page (7) is written by Tupac he speaks about crying. Tupac States that "Sometimes when I'm alone. "I cry because I'm on my own". I think Tupac is trying to state that when he is all by himself and that nobody understands him because he wants to do something, but everybodys gone or they don't understand him so he is alone.

The second thing he states that "I cry because my heart is torn and I find it differnt 2 carry on" Tupac states that when he crys he can't stop crying because something has happen in his life and his heart is broken in half, and he can't go on because he doesn't have the strength go on.

The third thing he states that "The world moves fast and it would rather pass u by than 2 stop and c what makes u cry". Tupac states that when the world moves fast it can't slow down and see what makes you cry. It will always move fast and no matter what everybody does in the world. If Tupac crys or if a person, it won't slow down to see what makes you cry.
