Cyber-Assignment "Love"

Sanskrit has ninety-six words for love; ancient Persian has eighty; Greek three; and English simply one." probably from Robert Johnson. This sounds cool, but it's really not true.

In English we have many words for kinds of love: lust, desire, affection, adore, longing, family, respect, admiration. We will say, "I adore him," or "I am hot for her," or "I totally respect you," or "I am fond of you," or "You are like family to me." "Yeow! No wonder we are confused about love.

Think about all the kinds of love you have known. This quote is all over the web, and I haven't sourced it yet. It's not quite true though.

Assignment
There has been a lot written about love. Martin King spoke about it often and said there were three kinds of love: eros, philia, and agape, and of the three, agape was the most divine.

What do you think?

As a part of this reflective assignment, go to the library, find a book, a published song, a poem, or an article about love, and incorporate it into your response. How did you end up with the resource you decided to share?

Bring your notes to class February 24 along with a symbol of love's discontent, exploitation or true meaning. Think creatively. You will have 1-2 minutes to share with the class.

Post your response to the questions here by February 26. Include a reflection on the class presentation(s). What did you learn? Was your perception shifted in any way, if so, how?

Today we had “Love presentation “. It was good experience to learn about other students opinion about what do they think about love, what means love to them.

As mom of two I liked the presentation which made Sareb about his mom. I think your mom loves your no one else in this world and she knows how you love her too. Just keep your love to her forever.

Also, I like the presentation which made Dimel. I am so proud of you, proud of your love to your dad. Good job Dimel.

During the love presentation, I especially like Sonry input on love because it really reflects the meaning of unconditional love. He reflected upon how he loves his girl forever and was committed to marry her. I also really like the poem he read because it is basically how he feels toward love and the love for his girl. Sonry has show that love does stop at going out, but it is how he feels toward his girl for “eternity”. He also mentioned that he is willing to spend his life with her and even though he is still young, I feel that love is about being committed like how Sonry felt for his girl at such a young age.
I also liked how Dimel talked about his love for his father who took care of him during the hard times.

When I was presenting about love, I chose a song called Dear Mama by 2pac. I chose that song because my mother is someone who I love the most and I felt that everybody in the class can relate to what I feel. During the presentation I felt a little nervous but I still went on with it because it was quick and easy to do. It did take a little longer because I had to read some of the lyrics.
David was the first presenter and he talked about his My Touch. I thought that it was funny when he explained that he dropped his phone all the time.
Tasha really loves her phone. It shows that everybody loves electronics.
Sodo read an article and show us a photo of her family. She is a mother and she told us that she loves her family.
Melvin presented his ipod, I that his little free style was the best part of his presentation.
Demel showed us a photo of his family at his mother’s grave site. It was nice to hear that his father took care of him when he lost his mother.
Thea presented her photo of her granddaughter. I thought she was only a mother but it surprised me that she was a grandmother.
Finally, Sonry was the last to present. He told the whole class that he really loves his girlfriend and wants to marry her. I thought that it was kind of sweet of him to tell us that.

IMX-“My First Time”
I believe that Eros is the most important bond that we form. This type of bond is usually with someone you want to spend time with. These people can best be described as girl and boy friend’s and husbands and wives. The reason I say this is because these are the people that you would have intimate relationship with, also have sex with. This is often confused with lust. Eros is on a deeper level then just sex. Animals can just have sex. It is about truly caring about that persons well being. You just use sex as a way to reinforce the love that you show on a regular basis.
One of the reasons that I picked this song is because I personally believe that no relationship can stay the same after the two parties have had sex. After your first time you will naturally be drawn to that person after the encounter because they are the ones who introduced you to the “sex world”. Sex is a more sensitive action amongst humans. Animals and even insects on the other hand can engage in sexual acts, but they cannot make love. They can have sex and feel nothing after, where I feel that humans can’t. None of them have enough feelings to be compassionate in the way that they love. Most people start out as friends, but when you cross that boundary then your relationship has changed. If two people go on having sex and not calling it a real relationship, then it will be only a matter of time before someone starts getting jealous. I think that’s the connection between you changes. It’s not that you may feel exposed to another human being on that level before. You are basically sharing your body with someone else until you both reach your sexual peaks. That’s why your first time should be with someone that you really care about and love.

Reflections on Love
Martin Luther King’s descriptions of Eros, Philia, and Agape fit well and make sense. They are in my opinion part of our consciousness as well as our biology as a human race. As part of this reading I will incorporate my interpretations from the song, “Where is the Love,” by the Black Eyed Peas.
He loosely describes Eros as the attraction between a man and a woman, call it love at first sight if you will. However, it is more than that. I like to see it as finding a partner in life, someone to share your soul with, your hopes, dreams as well as ambitions. But, after the biology of the initial honeymoon is over, that is when you will or will not find a balance with your new partner. Some would call that balance happiness.
Personally, I think Philia and Agape are very similar yet distinct. They draw upon each other in many ways, but there is one central theme that ties them together. How can you have love for your fellow man and your fellow friend, confidant and not feel the same about mankind as a whole. This, I think is a first step to changing the mindset of so many people who do not think in this fashion. I will quote a few lines from the last verse of “Where is the love.” “Whatever happened to the values of humanity, whatever happened to the fairness and equality, Instead of spreading love, were spreading animosity, leading us away from unity.” In an earlier verse of the song one of the underlying themes of Agape is also discussed, and that is discrimination, in its most basic sense. How can we love our fellow man and not the fellow man of a different color or creed?
Basically, we need all three types of love to transcend or evolve as a species. Each of these complements each other and is somewhat symbiotic. I know this all seems very idealistic, and it is, but take democracy as another example. A huge part of the world’s populace believes in this ideal. Are we there yet? No, but we strive for it because we believe in it. Belief, my friends, is very powerful.

She did a very good job at keeping everyone’s undivided attention. The story that she had to go along with her doll, I thought was very moving. I mean how often people keep things of sentimental for that long. Most of the time it is just left in storage until you decided to have your next garage sale.

Quiet Love
by Rose T Koubek

No tears, no heartache, no win or lose.
A new way to love, I have found.
Your smile gives to me peace.
Your voice caresses my soul.
Your eyes tell all... and more
Your hand in mine -

You have shown me a new way to love.
Much laughter, joyfilled heart,
We are one... together.
A new way to love, you have given me.
Your sighs of love
Fulfill every empty and shattered dream.
You have made whole
the broken soul of abused love.
Here we are, hand in hand,
nose touching nose,
eye to eye,
we have... a Quiet Love.

I enjoyed the presentation about Valetines day. I learned iinformation that i would have not seeked out on my own and done. It was very captivating. She kept us on the edge of our seats with every answere to the questionaire. Her presentation was excellent.

“Love” Assignment

There are many meanings to the word love, and each one of us has our own perspective. There are three main types of love eros, philia, and agape. Although to Dr. King the most divine type of love was agape or unconditional love towards everyone including your enemies, I think that all forms of love are important. There’s nothing as powerful as the ability to love and be loved. Although names have been given to different types of love, whether it is eros, philia, or agape, they all lead to a four letter word “LOVE.”

Since I have to write about one specific kind of love, I will write about philia. No matter how many material things a person has, if they have no one to love, or any friends, their life won’t be complete. Since philia is also called brotherly love, it can be translated as friendship. This type of love can be experienced in many different ways, for example father to son, or getting to know someone. On verse two of Brandy’s ‘Right Here’ song says “when you’re trapped and there’s just no key and you can’t breathe, I breathe for you, the fire’s got you down on both knees and the walls are closing in but I will break it through.”

The relationships that we have with others are what fulfill us. Brandy’s song quotes “When your life is going too fast, off the train tracks I can slow it down, just when you think you ‘bout to turn back scared you might crash, I’ll be your ground” I agree with this because I think that we all need someone to talk to or have our back when we have difficulties. I have experienced this type of love with my mom, because she has always been there for me in the good times and the bad.

In Martin King’s sermon, he introduced us to three kinds of love: eros, philia, and agape. Philia is the love of friendship. Agape is the love that wants nothing in return. And eros is the love of romantic. To King, agape is the most divine love in the three types of love. But to me I think that eros is the most divide love in the three types of love because eros is the types of love that cause other of show a lot of emotions. For example, happy, sad, pain, jealousy, hate, sweet, etc. Those feeling only exist when you fall in love. So to me the love between a man and a woman is the most beautiful. Especially, when you first fall in love, you will feel a lot of feeling you never feel before. The other reason that I think eros is the most divine is because it’s the type of love that easy to break. Even so people still hope that they will find a love that will give them everlasting memories.

For my themes of love I choice the poem “There is Something Inside Love” by Juan Antonio Gonzalez-Iglesias. In his poem he told us his feeling when he falls in love for the first time. Juan show us that when he fall in love he feels a lot of feeling he never experiment before. For instance, he notices that there are things that are changing before him. The things that change can be seen by his eyes and also the things that change by feeling with his heart. As he has says, “But something inside love isn’t of this word. Something that isn’t abstract. I try it, for example, in the warmth of your skin, every time we fall asleep together, and every morning that I hope for nothing more than your first kiss, when you recover your place in my arms blindly. Then we anticipate what one day we will have definitively. In order to name it the notion of solstice seems necessary to me. I won’t reason this over anymore. It is a kind of first fruit.”

In the presentation, everyone was doing a really good job with their presentation. The main theme of love that everyone talked about is the love of eros and agape. Even though, some people talked about the same type of love but to them that type love had a different meaning to every single one of them. And the way they present it really let other feel their intention and the feeling they was trying to show to everyone. Over all the presentation was a successes and I had a really good time listen to their presentation.

Cyper Write “Love”
There three types of love: Eros, Philla and Agape. I believe that Philla is the most important kind of love. Philla is the love in enjoying something. So, Philla represents all the joy that a person has for anything or anyone. I supported this by using Sonnet 18 written by Shakespeare. Sonnet 18 explains Shakespeare’s love to his girlfriend by comparing her to an enjoyable summer’s day. Sonnet 18 explains how Shakespeare enjoys writing poems and explain his joy looking at his girlfriend. I believe that Philla is most important because as humans we all are on the globe to love each other and be peaceful animals. Unlike real animals, we have the emotions of love that we feel next to something that we have a joy looking at or talking to. Philla in Greek means friendship. Everyone needs friendship in order to be a happy human beings. In conclusion, Philla is the most important kind of love that we all need in our human nature.

Cyber-Assignment "Love"

Love has no exact definition because other languages have many words that translates love into different meaning. Simply, because love is different for everyone. In Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s sermon "Love Your Enemy". He mentioned that there are three words for love in Greek language. The first one being Eros, which is an aesthetic love. It comes to be as a romantic love. Philia, is a type of love that is intimate between personal friends. It's a type of love that a person feels for a friend, it’s sort of a reciprocal love. The third one is agape, it is more than eros and more than philia. Agape is greater than eros and philia, it is something of understanding, creative, and it seeks nothing in return. It's type of love that is unconditional like the love of God for us.

Honestly, love is such a complicated feeling. It's a feeling that is undescribable and very unpredictable. I think that everyone loves at some point, whether it's loving a pet, a family member, or even an inanimate object. We all feel love, because love is self-less and love is giving without motive. For instance, there's that famous passage from Corinthians 13:4-3,

"Love is patient, love is kind
It does not envy, it does not boast it is not proud.
It is rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."

Even though this passage has been read or recited many times it still not fails to convey what the meaning of love. I think that this passage can be also relate to the the three types of love in Greek language, because in this passage it talks about how love is kind and that it always rejoices. But I think that agape is the most important form of love, because with it we learn to forgive ourselves and also other people, because love knows no boundaries and that it is not selfish.

In the presentation, each students chose an item that represents what love means to them. Others showed a picture of their family, while the others recited a love song or a poem about their special someone. While some students brought in items that are very special to them. It was interesting listening to the students presentation and their perspective on love and I learned a lot from the presentation. I also learned that not everyone has the same perspective on love and its meaning because people experience love differently.

Love Cyber Assignment
The three types of love Eros, agape, and philia. All three types of love have deep meaning and feeling. Eros means passionate love, with sensual desire and longing. Agape is unconditional love, also general affection or deeper sense of true love. Philia means friendship love. Its loyalty family, and community. Love can be expressed in different ways and sometimes you love something or someone so much you cant even express how much you love it.

I think Agape is the most valuable love meaning to me. Its unconditional loving family friends, and soul mate. I represent agape, the loving of my family. Family has been there all my life. They never go away no matter how much you dislike them or fight with them. There blood and that’s the closet thing you could get to. I’m thankful for my family. They look after me and I do the same. Family is a strong word. Its expressed as strong bonding, resemblance, the love, caring, laughter, raising, protecting, supporting, providing, responsibility and everything else. Their there when you need them. They show you comfort.

Family is a big part of me. I’m close to my family then anything else. They no me better then anyone. My family had got me to where I am now. I spend time with them, we have lots of fun, going out, talking, etc. There like friends we have a nice close bond. I love my family there great.
