Women's History Month Assignment for March 31

Freewrite for Wednesday, March 31

Reflect on women (2-3) in your life you honor and respect. These are affirmations or positive reflections, not that all experiences with women have been such. Again, as in all posts, respond to each other. I found out this weekend that March 8, was the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.

Homework

For Wednesday, March 31, bring in music, poetry, art, or other media to share by a woman you admire. The work shared can be original. If it is something printed or musical (lyrics) bring enough copies to share with students. I can make copies if you let me know in advance.

Women's History Month Assignment

The most important woman I honor and respect in my life is my mother because she’s always there for me and my little sister. She had sacrifice many things for me and my little sister. For instance, rather than buying nice things for herself, she’d rather save up the money for our bank account or she’ll buy us nice things. My mother has given us so many things and sometimes I take it for granted. My mother has always been there to give me advice and guide me. She has done tremendous things for my little sister and I in order for us to receive a better education. Now as I get older I realize that my mother is a very important aspect of my life and without her I wouldn’t be here and I thank God that he has given me a fun, caring, and loving mother and I wouldn't have it any other way.

There are currently three important women in my life. I do not know what I would do without them. The first is my mother. She was the woman who gave birth to me and nurtured me into a fine young man. Without my mom there would be no me. She taught me right from wrong and to respect all living things, no matter how small. She is strong, caring, stern if need be, and one of the sweetest people I know. She has always been there for me, and even though she is not from this country, she tries to relate to me.

My only sister is also very important to me. She was like a second mother. She helped my mom raise me and my younger siblings. She would always help me out whenever I got into trouble. When it came to me causing trouble, she would punish me so that I wouldn’t do anything bad ever again. I owe it to my sister for teaching me how to be modest and honest. My sister has been taking care of us for many years.

Last but not least is my bestfriend and girlfriend. I can talk to her about anything, no matter the issue. She has been by my side for a few years but we have known each other longer. We have been through troubles but we always resolve it. Her ideals are very close to mine and I think that is why we get along so well. Whenever I am with her it makes me happy. We always keep each other laughing and when it gets grim we cheer each other up.

I choose Phyllis Hyman, I really love her music and admire her talents. My favorite song is Betcha By Golly, Wow! Phyllis was a very beautiful women, I was very sad the day that I heard she committed suicide and overdosed on drugs. I was able to see her in concert the last year she died in Atlanta; she was only 45 years old.Phyllis was born in Philadelphia and dies in New York.

The women that are most important in my life are my mother and my older sister.
My mother is someone that can never be replaced. She is someone that will always be in my heart. She took care of me and taught me many things. Her birthday is coming up on the 6th of April and
I want to show her my appreciation. I do not know what I am going to do but something will come up. I will probably convince my siblings to help clean the whole house, my mother would love that.

My sister is the only sister I have. When I was younger she always took care of me, even now she still looks out for me and I really appreciate that. I want to give her my thanks somehow but I do not know what to give her.

My sister and my mother are the women in my life that I love. They both know that I love them but I want to show them my appreciation for all that they have done for me.

One woman that I admire is Angelina Jolie. She is someone that I look up to because she is very generous with her money and fame. Jolie donates to a lot of foreign countries and helps a lot of people in need. Some people might see her as today’s Mother Theresa. Jolie is Global Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees. She is also known for adopting orphan babies from foreign countries. Her babies Maddox, Zarhara, and Pax were all adopted and she has three kids of her own. Jolie doesn’t only donate money to foreign places but she also spends time there and physically contributes to the place. With the money that Jolie makes off her pictures she donates them to charity. Plus she helps fight for human rights in foreign places. In addition to this, she is a very talented actress and she won many award for her work, like the Oscars for her work in Girl Interrupted. I admire her because she is very talented and generous with her time and fortunes.

Two women who I honor and respect would have to be my mother and grandmother. I respect my grandmother because it is only right to respect your elders. She deserves all the respect in the world because she puts herself last in situations where she should be placed first. She is selfless and full of kindness.
My mother is the second women I respect and admire. Everyone loves their mother unconditionally, it is only natural. To most people when you ask “who is the most important woman in your life”? I bet that most will answer “my mom”. Mothers have the hardest jobs in the world and each of them deserves our gratitude and admiration.

The women that I look up to in my life are my Grandmother and my aunt Josa.
My grandmother whose name is Theresita, was always been there for me since I was a child, back in the Philippines. I appreciate her so much, and I cherish all the moments that I still remember now. I always love her cooking skills, and I always dreamed of being able to cook good like her. I miss her, and maybe sooner or later, I am visiting her back in the Philippines.
My aunt Josa was my bestfriend when I was a child, even now. Although I moved here in the United States, we still talked on the phone and talk about what is happening. She have two daughters that I really love. When I was in the Philippines, I always watch her daughters for her, which I really did not like back then, but now I miss doing that task. My aunt and my grandmother are special for me. And I appreciate their love and support they have given to me.

Response to Neil Chu

I agree with what Neil said. My mom is the most important person to me. I truly love her unconditionally and I would never want to see anything bad happen to her. He also brings up a good point in respecting and honoring your elders.I was taught that by my mother. When in the presence of your elders, you have to behave and be mannerful.

Response to Rosecary Aguinaldo

I agree with Rosecary. My mother is also the most important person in my life. Just like her mother sacrificing a lot for her and her siblings, my mother does the same thing.

I choose Isabel Allende`s speech because I admire her so much as a woman, journalist, writer, and mother. Isabel Allende is from Chile and she emigrate to Venezuela in the seventies after her uncle, Salvador Allende died in 1973.
I am from Chile too, and in my early twenties I read almost all her books. My favorite is The house of the Spirits, and The Infinite Plan.
After reading her speech, I admired her more because I learned that she is such a strong woman, and she is been though so much in her life. Also, her daughter Paula died in the early nineties and after that she wrote her famous novel Paula.
In her novel Paula, Allende express how much she loves her daughter. Also, after Paula died Allende also express that writing was an escape from her depression. The same year her stepdaughter, Jennifer died to.
Later, in the late nineties, she wrote more books and she received many awards. Her books have been read in many countries. Later, in 2001 she wrote a novel for children’s and young adults, named The City of the Beast.
One of the last things that I learned about her was that in February 2010 she went to Chile after the earthquake. She also donate a lot of money for the people who lost everithing.

There are a lot of important women in my life like my grandma, my mom, my sister, and my second oldest cousin. To me those are the person that cannot be replaced. My grandma is who I love most and respect the most because she so kind and always love me. My mom gives me my life and my education. Then there is my sister, she teach me a lot of new things and always gives whatever I want. As for my second oldest cousin, she is the one I admired the most because out of my entire cousin, she is the most successful one. She has a lot of skill like sewing clothes, and cooking. At first she has no opportunity to go to school, but she uses her skill to earn money to go to school. With her hard work she has help her family become one of the richest family in my town.

Women’s History Month Assignment

Throughout my life I have been surrounded by women who I admire and respect, but the most important women in my life is my mother. I don’t know what I would do without her. She has tough me lots of things about life and raised me well. I always saw her happy, even though we were going through hard times, and she always had a positive mind. She always finds a solution to my problems, and always listens, even though she doesn’t agree with what I see.

My grandmother is also really important in my life. Her example has shown me that women can be really strong. She never gives up on anything, and always perseveres.

Alicia Keys

A woman who I admire is Alicia Keys. She was raised by a single mother in Manhattan, New York. Her occupations are: a singer-songwriter, multi instrumentalist, composer, arranger, record producer, actress, music video director, author, and poet. She started playing the piano at the age of seven and attended Professional Performing Arts School. Later, she attended Columbia University but dropped out to pursue her music career. Now she has sold over 30 million albums world wide. Most of her songs are about love, heart break, and women empowerment.

Besides her music career, she has used her fame to reach out to people and help those in need. She is the co-founder and global Ambassador of Keep a Child Alive, which is a non-profit organization that provides medicine to families infected with HIV and AIDS in Africa. She has also donated money to From tha Ground Up, a non-profit organization that gives children and teenagers scholarships.

There is one main woman in my life that has made an impact. I’ve have seen the majority of the woman in my life up and leave, but my fathers ex-girlfriend has stayed and remained a mother figure in my life for years now. She helped my dad fight for custody of me, when they won she was the one who gave me all the skills to act like a lady and be a lady. But most importantly she never left, like my mother did. She made a statement by staying and showing me that I could trust her.
She was and is the one that was at all my tournaments and helping me get ready for dances. She went shopping with me and was the one I ran to talk to for womanly issues. She always had advice for any bump in the road I would face.
But her as a woman in general is inspiring. She is an educated woman with a job, she pays her bills, owns her own car and home, and I had never seen that before. I found a common ground with some one. I’ve always loved being independent and never depending on someone; she showed me that that was ok, and that it was possible.
She has a heart of gold. I love her.

I have four very special ladies in my life that I love and adore; these are Rose, Zuri, Asha, and Kua. These ladies happen to be my mother, and older and younger sisters. Obviously I love my mother for giving birth to me, and I love her for much more than that. She took care of me since I was a little boy, and raise me taught me good manners. Since my father passed away when I was ten, my mother was the only one left to raise me, and her other five children, and she did. I believe she did a great job too.
My older sister Zuri can be annoying at times, but she has always had my best interest in mind, and has helped me through some tough times. She taught me a lot about life, social group, and just things that a mother cannot really teach you. She told me mistakes she made, so I would not have to make them. And she always keeps a smile on my face.
Asha and Kua are my twin sisters, together we are triplets, so naturally we have become real close. Though we have our differences, we all love each other and mean well. We all were considered the smartest in the family; we always competed and push one another to do their best. And we are still competing to this day. I think all the women in my family are wonderful.

I think Sareth Chhoth had a really nice paper. They basically talk about the love they share for their mom and sister. I can strongly relate because I have a mom and sisters that I am really close to too. Like them, I am also thinking of a way to show my appreciation towards them, so I am going to take my time until the perfect idea come, then I’m going to give it to them. I believe they will be really excited.
