The Write Course: "Argumentation"

Reflect on the argumentation process and the video. Now think about the essay by Ann McClintock, "Propaganda Techniques." Students can combine comments (English 201 1-3 PM class).

We looked at the chapter in Diana Hacker's Rules for Writers on argument and completed some of the exercises there.

Reflections on Argumentation

Being able to argue a point can apply to many things. It can help one in business, sales, marketing, political science and of course life in general. In the argumentaion video we watched many different aspects of this process were discussed.

First, there are three main forms.
1) Take a stand, then present.
2) Anticipate the opposition, and then argue your point.
3) Take the opposition stand, find the fallacies, refute them and then present your side.

Personally, I like the third position. As they say, "You should always know your enemy." Preparation in my mind is one of the most important keys. If you dont know what your up against how can you make a strong argument or rebutt anothers point?
