Answer to Bundarin's chapter 1 question.

Henry became a slave master by becoming independent and making money on shoes that he made. After increasing the amount of money he had Henry bought a slave and began to start to build a plantation with his slave.

Answer to Dalina's first question for chapter 1.

Out of all the slaves, Henry was the closest to Robbin's for many different reasons. Henry was a hard worker and always put in effort to try to impress Robbins. Henry would go the extra mile in trying to prove to Robbins he was a worthy slave. Henry began to spend more time with Robbins and eventually moved his way up to being his main slave.

Answer to Miguel's question.

Henry had to wait longer to become free because his parents didn't have enough money to free him at the same time. They saved their money and tried to get more as fast as possible so that they could free their son. Robbins became so fond of Henry and thought he was more valuable so he would increase the amount Henry's parents would have to pay to free him.

Since nobody has yet responded to any of my questions i'll just comment on the other answers. I agree with Guillermo, when he says Henry owns slaves because it's what he's used to. Also because back then anyone that had money or was wealthy would own blacks. It didn't matter if you were black or white. Even though Henry was once a slave, that didn't stop him from having slaves because he came to power and had money so he only followed the pattern. Also, I agree with Vanessa when she said the reason why Minerva was treated more like a daughter rather than a slave is because she was so young and they really didn't even want a slave. Minerva was given to them as a wedding gift and would've rather not accepted it but they didn't want others to question them or look at them differently so they kept Minerva. They got close to her and treated her more like a daughter more than anything else.

Response to Albero Sith: Chapter 1

- I think that Henry feels good about his position because he wanted to feel like his former master, Robbins and since Robbins have been giving him advice, he feels as if he's superior.

Response to Winnie Li: Chapter 2

- Minerva was treated as a daughter rather than a slave because her "owners" disregarded owning any one in general.

Continuing...

Response to Samon's chapter 3 Question..

Overall when Elias got her ears cut off..it taught her and let her know that if she were to ran away again the consequence would become more severe as to getting her ears cut off were not enough. It also gave her a notice that as long as shes a slave, running away is nearly impossible.

Response to Rocardo's chapter 3 question...

Caldonia does not show signs of freeing Henry's slaves because it wasn't allowed. The booked showed and said that just because a slave owner is dead, it doesn't mean that they are guaranteed their freedom. Overall, they are still in custody because they are still slaves in society.

Responding to Miguel Ahumada

Chapter 1:
Why did Augustus have to wait more years to free Henry after Augustus freed himself and his wife?

Augustus has to wait more years to free his wife because he only had enough to free himself.

Responding to Evelyn V. Rodriguez-Gonzalez
Chapter 2:
Why would Winifred and John Skiffington treat their slave Minerva as a daughter?

They treated Minerva like a daughter because they do didn't like slavery and they wanted to help.

1.Response to Bundarin chapter 1 question...
Henry became a slave master because he was former slave of Mr. Robbins. Mr. Robbins taught Henry everything he needed to know on being a slave master. Mr. Robbins thought Henry was a special slave. He wasn’t like the others. Henry was smart. I believe Henry just followed the footsteps that were already laid out for him. Henry didn’t know any other life but slavery so when he finally got a chance to be a free man; he figured it now was his turn to be the master.

2. Response to Winnie Li chapter 2 questions. Why was Minerva treated like a daughter instead of a slave?
Minerva was treated like a daughter instead of a slave because her owners Skiffington and Winifred did not want any part of slavery. Minerva was given to then as a wedding gift. They didn’t want to give her back because they knew that if they did, she would of ended up being someone slave. So they decided to keep her.
