Read these two articles about California's death penalty. What do you think about the shortage of the chemical used in lethal injections and the race to execute Albert Greenwood before the medicine expires?

How about the strange case of the Hall of Famer with a criminal record?

It seems as if everyone in California knows someone connected to the criminal justice system, why is that? Do you think this is strange?

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger Picks Country Outlaw Merle Haggard for Hall of Fame
By Patrick Range McDonald, Wed., Jul. 7 2010 @ 3:10PM

Country music outlaw Merle Haggard

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the 2010 inductees of the California Hall of Fame today, with country music outlaw Merle Haggard making the honor roll, which strikes us as kind of funny.

Possibly only in free-wheelin' California would a Republican, movie star governor decide that an ex-convict with a long rap sheet and a stint at the notorious San Quentin State Prison is one of the state's most special and accomplished citizens.
But Haggard's always had good luck with Republican politicians: Former California Governor Ronald Reagan, who, of course, later became president, gave the musician a full pardon in 1972.

Without a doubt, Haggard is a country music legend who deserves the honor, and he hasn't gone soft over the years. Just read this excerpt from an Uncut magazine interview:

"I hate to say this, but politically speaking, there was more freedom in San Quentin when I was there than there is in the streets of America now," said Haggard.

"Everything you did this morning has been recorded on film. That wasn't the case in prison when I was there. They might as well put a wall up: they've got us all under surveillance. In jail at the time, you could play poker 24 hours a day if you wanted to. Now, you can't even smoke. What a world we live in. You can't smoke in a pool hall. What has happened?"

Law-and-order and family values types may be saying the same kind of thing about Haggard's induction.

All we can say is, "Long Live Hag!"

Overall this was a saddened story of Albert. He has done some disastrous things to that innocent girl and the family members. I think the shortage of chemicals has to do everything with economics. They rushed the medicine and chemical shortage to save some money. It is pretty weird that everybody knows somebody in the criminal justice system because there are so many people out there.

I think they should go through with the execution even if the chemical expires. Mr.Brown was aware of his actions when he rapped 2 girls and killed one of them. We are still trying to be humane to a killer, at least he's not getting Fried. These days it seems like you can get locked up for anything and even if somone was falsely prosecuited they have to serve time before they see justice.

-What do you think about the shortage of the chemical used in lethal injections and the race to execute Albert Greenwood before the medicine expires?

I believe that if there is shortage of chemicals used for lethal injections then that person that is being executed should not be rushed, they should have the chance to live until the next time they have the chemical.

-How about the strange case of the Hall of Famer with a criminal record?

I believe that even if you are a hall of famer then you should be treated the same as any other criminal.

Okay so after reading the articles on Albert. I believe in my opinion that he deserves this penalty. Albert is very aware of the actions he committed. So he deserves to be punished for his actions. Now on the shortage of the chemical on the other hand I believe has to do with the economics. If they were not so concerned with saving money. They would not have this problem with the shortage of the chemical. I also want to add that if a person commits a horrible crime. They should suffer the consequences for their actions.

I think the story is pretty sad for Albert. He done the things crazy people would do. He raped two girls and killed one of them. I cant beleive he was able to to that. And now alomost anybody could get locked up for anything. I feel like the system for criminals is corrupted and there is something wrong. It's always getting delayed or justice doesn't seem how it should be.

After reading the first article about Albert Greenwood it opened my eyes about the death penatly. I feel it's very sad that people find out when exactly they will be dying. I think that the shortage of the chemical used in the lethal injection is crazy. The shortage of the chemical shows that too many people are dying by the lethal injection. The rush to kill Albert is to save money. It is also because they dont want to have to give him more medicine because his medicine is supposed to wear off tomorrow. They want to kill him before they have to give him more medicine.

It is really sad that an innocent girl got rapped. Eventhough what Albert did wasn't the right thing to do, I still belive it is not right to kill him. I don't see the point of wanting him dead. The wrong things he did are already made, and killing him won't do anybetter. It is better if you just leave him in jail for the rest of his life.

I think what they plan to do with Albert Greenwood is an absolute travesty. No one deserves to die no matter what. We are all humans and we were born to make mistakes, but it is absolutely absurd that another human has the right to take away another humans life. It's a crime and god bless them all. ASSHOLES!

I think that the shortage in the lethal injection is really ironic because their not ready to excute someone in this case when needed. And the rush to kill someone just to save money is ridiculous. they need to do i the right way. and if not let him rott in prison.

i think its pretty ironic that someone with a long rap sheet like him gets him inducted into the california hallfame but i also i belive that his encounters with the law should effect his accomplishments eslewhere .

Albert did a horrible crime and should be punished as soon as possible. He violated the little girl and killed her.WHy should he be given more time to live?
Kevin the escaped murderer should be found immediately.

I think the shortage of the chemical used in lethal injections has a lot to do with the economic status and the fact that there hasn't been an execution in 5 years. The race to execute Greenwood before the medicine expires is a messed up situation even though he did a lot of wrongs. They should wait until a new chemical has arrived, atleast he's still serving time.

The Hall-of-Famer shouldn't be treated any differently because of his publicity, he deserves whatever happens to him too!

I think Albert Greenwood should

get executed even if the medicine

expires because he knew what he

was doing when he raped the two girls. It is very sad

because no one deserves to get raped or killed. The hall of famer

Kevin Cooper deserved to die

because he killed a lot of

innocent people for no reason. I

I do not think it’s strange at all.

At the time when he did the fatal event, i think that it wasnt really a idea and that he deserved what was comimg to him. i think that they dont have to rush the date to execute him and just do it on the right date. if the chemicals gets expired then they should still use it, it might kill him super faster.
some people are involed in the criminal justice system because of family or because of firends. i do believe that this is strange because that would mean it is not a small problem but a large one.

I have read the article, and i think its tragic for the family to get their kids raped and killed. Albert deseves to be executed by any means. He is fortune that he has more days to live but when the chemicals arrive, he will know whats up. I dont think its a great big of a deal that the chemical is expired, he will be executed soon.

I think that Albert Greenwood deserves to die by lethal injection
because of the henderous crimes that he committed. shortage of lethal injections, lets sizzle him up and throw him away like he did his young and innocent victims. To take the life of two innocent girls was such a disrepect and disregard for human life. With Greenwood's act of disrespect for those young girl's precios life, Why should we have mercy on him? i want to see Greenwood executed as soon as possible, he deserves no sympathy or mercy, he is a waste of human life. A person like Greenwood can never be reabilitate, as of matter of fact statistics show that once a person kills, they will do it again. So enough excuses with shortages of lethal injections, lets sizzle Greenwood and throw him away like he did his young and innocent victims.

I think the shortage of the chemicals was due to the economic downfall we have. I don't understand how the poison could expired. They could always just inject him with the "expired" injections they already have. But, since they extended the date i think they should just let him die of old age or something rather than killing him. the man is old anyways.

Overall, I feel like the man who raped the 15 year girl was bad. In my opinion, I feel like he should suffer more before he die because then he will be the example to all the rapists in the world to never to that to anyone ever again. I feel like if he dies with injection or chemical, it’s like he did something wrong and getting kill with a little liquid while the girl will have to suffer her world life.

I think that the shortage in lethal injections should not be used as an excuse for postponing his execution. This has been planned for some time now and for them to say that there is a shortage in lethal injections is just absurd.
The Hall of Famer with a criminal record is fine with me. I think that he was chosen to be a part of the hall of fame because he deserved it. It’s not as if he just went to jail and didn’t do anything to get him recognized to be a part of it. It’s clear that he did do some time in San Quentin, but that shouldn’t stop anyone from prevailing from a past like his. Some people do things that get them into horrible situations but that doesn’t mean that they’re bad

The tragic incident about the man who raped the young girl should be finalized with the death penalty. Albert Brown committed a crime where he raped two girls and killed one. For that, I personally believe he deserves to be killed. The shortage used of chemical to me has nothing to do with the economy. I believe they just don’t want to use too much chemical on him for him to die.

Personally I do not agree with the death penalty. The individuals who receive it this penalty do harsh things to get it, but at the same time it is a cruel and unusual punishment. Peoples mind sets can really get messed up sitting in jail everyday knowing that on a certain day they will lose their life. Life in prison would be fine for a serious crime, but they should jus die from natural causes. A person like Brown did do something absurd, but we can not just look to take his life. We must find out what goes on in the mind of a person to do something of that sort. An action like that is a mistake that is repeated mistake, so that it doesn’t occur again we should find out what went on in Browns mind. We can then see some of the actions in other individuals that are similar and that way we can not prevent it before it happens.

I think that Albert Greenwood deserves to die by lethal injection because of the crimes that he committed. Taking two little girls life away is an unforgivable crime. Greenwood was well aware of the crime he was committing and knew that there would be a severe consequence to come along with it. I don’t think anyone should feel sorry for him or feel any kind of mercy because Greenwood didn’t show the two little girls any mercy. I feel that there is something terribly wrong in Greenwood head. I think that he is a sickening man. The shortage of lethal injections should not be used as an excuse to postpone Greenwood death. I’m sure there are some more of that poison somewhere. And if not, there is many other way to kill somebody.

Postponed Execution

I do not agree with the death penalty, it does not do our country, state, or county any
good. Not only does it cost a lot of money to keep prisoners, it does not help our society
as a whole. Instead of putting people in a cage to become institutionalized we should
rehabilitated them. We should stop trying to treat the effect and start working on the
cause. If we did that we would not be wasting so much money on people everyday. We would also be contributing to making more people in society more aware of their
problems, and giving them the tools to deal with them and life.
