Cyber-Assignment Reflection on Information Literacy

1. Share three new investigative strategies you learned today to help you in your academic studies.

2. Why is information literacy so important today, not just for students, but for everyone?

3. What was invaluable about today's library orientation? Share something that changes the way you look at libraries, librarians, books, computers or databases, the World Wide Web.

4. Have you used any of the academic services yet in the LRC or Learning Resources Center? Did you know it was upstairs? What service do you plan investigating first?

The library assignment is due Monday.

Homework is to continue in Pidd--verb phrases and pronoun case. We will review exercises on Monday. In Half the Sky, we are up to Chapter 11 next week March 3. We will look at signal phrases, block quotes, develop character profiles.

Develop ideas for topics. Bring both books to class. I returned a lot of the Sentence Punctuation Essays. Most essays did not have a peer review. It's really important to have the peer review before turning the paper in. I will get to the essays emailed to me before this weekend with comments. So far, only one student passed his Essay 1 the first go round.

If you have questions call me and don't forget I am around everyday from 8 AM on M-Th. Did you know that the library offers a class on information literacy which is transferable to fulfill the California State University graduation requirement. Ask Professor Sparks or another librarian about it.

On last wednsday's library orientation i learned only a little bit about searching. Other than seeing that there are some pretty huge databases everything we discussed i was pretty familiar with. I feel that information literacy is important when you plan on learning or writing anything. If you dont understand how to look up and research wether the information your reading is true, than you can be learning a lot of wrong things which would be bad for anyone not just students.

During the library orientation i did learn that to get to a base of information or the "first document" like the constitution for instance, takes a lot of source clicking. Other than that i guess libraries are still pretty cool for getting your homework done. So far i've used the Resource Learning Center for getting my homework done and the water fountain when i'am thirsty. Somewhere later down the line i hope to spend my afternoon's relaxing in some of thier lazy boy chairs.

I learned to pick a topic, use the library as a source of information, and find article in online database. In my high school, I learned to do research paper and I gathered up the information with the references and citations on it to show where I can find it. I think information literacy gives you a lot of information to find and evaluate good information. Everyone needs to research better information in the internet so that he can understand what it is all about. The invaluable thing in the library orientation was I did not understand where I can get the good information in the library website because there are lot things in there that I cannot find. The library is very quiet and easy to concentrate when working with many homeworks and I always like to go to the computer. I always go to LRC to do my homework and check something in my email and google information in the internet.

In the Library orientation I learned how the Library online website resources are very useful. I learned how to search for topics that will help me gather information on what I would like to write about. The website is useful but there is so much information to choose from when you type in a specific source your looking for. I will use the library as a source for information because I find it helpful for myself. The library is where I go when Im needing to look up information or to do my work I can focus on my work and get it all done.
