Cyber-Assignment: Keep Ya Head Up

Today in class we reviewed MLA format for the essay. Students got into groups and read an essay on MLA from Stewart Pidd Hates English and then corrected a student essay together (Politt Baker 311-314). We discussed recommendation for the student, so he could write a passing essay.

We then listened and read the Tupac Shakur song: Keep Ya Head Up. Homework is to write a 250 word summary of the key ideas or themes in the song.

1. Talk about the characters or subjects Tupac uses to illustrate his point. What is the song about? Is it about single parenting or more than that?

2. Use citations or examples from the song to prove or support your points. Remember, all ideas are good, but they need to reference the text.

3. Use Standard English. If you use slang, it needs to be from the song and in quotation marks. Put a line or stanza notation in parentheses after the citation or quote.

I brought the textbooks in this morning for students to look at. Buy your books or rent them or check them out from the public library. all the books are in the college bookstore. You need Pidd now and the other books: Dyson and Shakur by Monday at the latest. If you have Shakur now bring it to class, along with Pidd.

In Pidd
We start with the section Plagiarism and Paraphrasing (339-379). We will continue with the MLA review (315-317), Quiz (319-320) and (321-331).

At the same time we will be reading Dyson and starting on Chapters 1-3 (1-51)(Confused Words, Sentence Punctuation, and Pronoun Agreement).

“Keep Ya Head Up”

Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur is a very inspirational song for me. I feel that the example he gives about women has such a bigger meaning. I think that he targeted women and their struggles with men was something that I can relate to and I’m sure many other women can relate to, by him making the lyrics comfortable to hear I think it captures a lot of women who seem like they are in trouble. In some way he gives us hope that even though we could be going through everything bad we can still get back up and try again.
In the verse when he says “And since a man can’t make one He has no right to tell a women when are where to create one” I think he touched men also because I don’t think he said anything to attack anyone but he was being very real and he gave credit to the real men. The bigger picture to me wasn’t to target specifically women I think it was to everyone going through hard time and if we come together outside our problems we can grow.
Another big topic that caught my attention is that he has experienced troubles, which is why he can relate to people who feel like there is no way out. A very powerful verse in the song is “And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more” basically letting people know to never give up. This very inspiring song and the message is hope!

“Keep Ya Head Up”

The song keep your head up by Tupac was very inspirational not just to women but also to males .Most importantly to everyone I think Tupac’s main ideas in the song is that if you have a problem no matter what it is you got to get back up and keep fighting for what you want “and if you fall, stand tall and come back for more”. Another point he try’s to make is that no matter how difficult it gets weather your having babies on your own or even growing up poor while your peers around you have what you want you always keep your head up “and its crazy, it seems it’ll never lead up, but please….you got to keep your head up”. Tupac grew up in bad neighborhoods in Baltimore and Oakland and he keeps a positive out look on live and made it out of as what he called it “the gutter” meaning the lowest of the low the filthy and the ghetto were one day him or his friends can loose there whole families in one sec just like that “last night my buddy lost his whole family is gunna take the man in me to conquer this insanity”. He makes an excellent point on how the have a lot of money to fight wars while there’s people in the community that don’t have a bite to eat and are starving “you know when it rains it pours they got money for war but can’t feed the poor”. the speaks to the men when he says that we got to respect are women and be real to them there’s no point of having babies with them if your not going to be in your Childs life “you know what makes me unhappy when brothas make babies and leave a young mother to be a pappy”

“Keep Ya Head Up”

The song lyrics “keep ya head up” by Tupac Shakur is a inspirational song. I think when he relates his songs to the women who struggles in their life. He tries to describe when women are struggling with men and children. I think when he made this song, he tries to make it comfortable and easy to hear and it seems that this lyrics shows that some women are struggling. This lyrics is most likely about single parenting.

When skimming this lyrics, I saw a verse that when he said, “and since a man cant make one he has no right to tell a women when and where to create one.” This verse tells that men has no right to tell women to do something but not as much. Everyone is going on a rough time anyways since it wasn’t the only target for women.

Tupac Shakur should write a lyrics on people in need of help, since he wrote about women who struggles. There is a lot of people need of help and I saw one of the verse is, “I’m trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents.” This verse is trying to say that this person wants to do their best to make money. Even with the economy today there is a lot of ups and down. People trying to make money and there are people who in need of money or have money. People should never give up and this lyrics is an inspirational song.

Keep ya head up summary

I believe that this song describes about how women are mistreated by then men of this age, despite the fact that where they come from, the reason they live is from a woman. That many men not only just of this day and age but all time have been mistreated by men, to be thought but of inferior to men. Not only that but to be seen as objects and tools, without taking responsibility for one’s actions men continue to abuse to demean women. 2Pac’s lyrics say why all women around the world shouldn’t put up with how they are being treated every day. But I also believe that this reaches out to all the men in the world, who treat women like garbage. That mostly no matter what a mother is always there for their child, to raise them right and to make someone of themselves. Not to join gangs to smoke or steal but most of all be a good person. That if the father left them to never become like him and care for the family they will hopefully one day have. That single mothers around the world are struggling week after week to care for their sons and daughter so they can have a future. 2Pac sings that women shouldn’t give up no matter how hard the struggles are and to keep their head up, to never let a man get them down. But personally I think that women shouldn’t need to try to keep their spirits high, because men should never treat any women with that kind of disrespect and force struggles upon them.

Keep Ya Head Up
I believe that the song Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac is about more then just single parents but about his life growing up in the ghetto, and how us men have to start treating our women better since they were the ones that had brought us into this world in the first place. He also says that even though there are many hardship in life that you should always “keep ya head up” meaning that you should give up but always getting back up on your feet and go on with your life. In the first verse of the song he says “ brothas make babies and leave a young mother to be a pappy” he is referring to all the irresponsible men that leave their kids with their mothers because they don’t want to take care of the child. In his second verse, I believe that he is talking about growing up in the ghetto and how he had a few smokes even though his mother had tried her best to raise him well. He also mentions that is was hard for them to make money legally and mange to pay the rent. He also mentions how the government has money to fight wars but yet they can’t even feed the poor people in the own country. At the end of his song he mentions a few other problems that he had then tells everyone that even though he has those problems, he still manages to keep his head up. I believe that the overall theme to this song would be that even with all the problems that everyone faces, we should ways have hope and get back on our feet.

"Keep ya head up"

All of Tupac's have a very strong message. But this song in song in particular is a very inspirational song. In the beginning part of the song he wanted all the women that go through relationship problems on a daily to know that its okay to stand up for yourself, that its okay to leave him, and that you can live fine without him. The main target is to women and to the guys that dont take care of their women.
"When brothas make babies and leave a young mother." This quote relates to a lot of young women's out there, espcially now a days.
But he also gives the earned respect to the guys that are doing what they're supposed to be doing with their life if they get a girl pregnant.
Also the main theme of the song is, no matter what happens in life, keep your head up. Better and brighter days are to come.

"Keep Ya Head Up"
Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac is a very lyrical song but even though the lyrics are deep theres more meaning to them. I think that the song when you first listen to it is about woman and how they have bad decisions on getting pregnant and starting families. Since Tupac's mom was a crackhead he got to see these things first hand. But when you get into deeper thinking of the song I think he's really talking about the children and there future more than the parents and what they're doing.
Childrens lives usually end up how they are usually because of how there parents raised them and the environment they were around. Tupac was trying to say for a woman to find a respectable man to be a father for the child so that they can grow up and be successful and not have a hard life. An example to backup my idea is "I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby". Also when he talks about when he would go out with the local crews.
This song not only talks about life struggles in more than one case, but its an inspirational song saying that even though times are hard if you keep struggling eventually your hard work will pay off at the end. This song is not only inspirational for people who grew up in bad neighborhoods, i believe it can be a song that anyone can relate to in any area. To me this song doesnt go for a certain group of people, anyone would find the message in this song very inspirational.

"Keep Ya Head Up"

Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur has a very strong meaning to it to which a lot of people can relate too men and women. I think this was targeted to women and their struggles at any age in life. And also I feel Tupac was trying to grab men's attention in some verses of his song. I feel that he made the song for men and women to relate to. But most importantly I think his main idea in the song is if you have a problem you should believe to get back up and keep trying. Another point I found interesting is when he speaks about women and babies no matter how young you had your child there still is a way to live and survive. Even if you may feel no one is there Tupac mentioned "Tupac cares and don’t nobody else care" letting women know that he understands their issues. He gives women hope not to give up on things because one day it will get better. Another verse that stood out to me because it relates to a lot of current things that’s going on in our world today when he says “brothas make babies and leave a young mother to be a pappy” he is referring to all the irresponsible men that leave their kids with their mothers because they don’t want to take care of the child. I like the ending to the song because all throughout the song he is explaining different scenarios and at the end he explains a little of what he went through but by keeping his head up he still managed to make it through life.

"Keep Ya Head Up"

In Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur, he connects all the struggle he's seen and grown up with the idea of optimism and looking on the bright side. There are countless lines where he'll rhyme about a specific sad, negative, sometimes tragic occurrence. Directly following is likely to be a line of appreciation and a little hope. He refers to a lot of ways we mistreat women, abandon them, a product of them, destroy, and hate our women. After his brutally honest true perspective he goes on to say "I think it's time to kill for our women. Time to heal our women, be real to our women." (Lines 23-24). Tupac is seeing all these terrible things happening to women around him. Although he's strictly referring to men mistreating women, there's other aspects of life and ways people commit wrong doing that he's also exploring. In the song, women represent more than just the female sex. Women represent beauty, compassion, and nurturing. Men disrespecting women relates to people everywhere morally going against what they know to be right.

One of the reasons Tupac is world known, and such an important person in music is because of the way he develops vivid pictures of exactly how he sees life. It's very easy to respect, relate, and enjoy his music. Tupac is very grounded and takes everything for what it's worth, he finds the good and bad in things, then quickly has an idea of how to prevail and continue in life's journey.

"keep ya head up"

Keep Ya Head up by Tupac is a song about how everyone has struggles no matter who your are or where your from. i feel the emotions as he talks about how we should keep our heads up as life will get brighter and easier as we struggle. i believe Tupac has a bigger picture in mind as he is talking about "keep ya head up". i believe he is telling us to live on, hold onto those that we cherish, and hope for those brighter days.
Tupac talks about how we should be real and not be them fakes, to struggle with our friends and women through thick and thin and not just be with them when they have success. in his song he states: " I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends and its crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but please... you got to keep your head" (line 99). Tupac is saying that life is hard, but as we struggle through the pain with our loved ones there will be brighter days. The overall theme of this song is that life is hard and there's no happy endings, but "keep ya head up" for those brighter days. This is song is deep and i feel the hope in these lyrics.

What I got from this song, is that Tupac is that black people especially black women should always stay strong and keep our heads up.

From a black mans point of view. Even as a child the narrator might not have had everything that he may have wanted but at the same time, he never wanted for nothing. How even doing things the right way is hard and a struggle at times to survive, and how doing the wrong thing could land a person in the penitentiary. Friends are usually are not around when things are bad they are no where to be found.

Speaking on his message to females. He is saying most dudes treat women real bad..They beat, rape and make babies and then do nothing to support the woman or child. In the song he states "we all came from a woman, got our name from a woman and our game from a woman". I feel that women are much stronger then men, and must work harder to keep their heads up in this world.

To close i think this statement speaks extra loud to me. "I was given this world I did not make it". I see this as I did not ask to be born into this world, but since I am here I have to roll with the punches and no matter how many times I have fallen and how many more times I will fall, I must keep moving forward and keep my head up.

Shakur Summary

The song “Keep Ya Head Up” is Tupac Shakur significance associations with women that have influence his perception and values largely predispose by his mom and sisters. He saw the hardship and the abandonment with cruelty men put on women as devalue individuals that are seen as object of desire and invading their wombs. Then he states that society even though African – American are the majority that lives and breath below the national poverty level in which with limited opportunities, the dark side of the streets can be somewhat forgiving especially for a young boy or girl growing up without a male influence. The only person that didn’t gave up on him was in fact his mother and my personally insight evaluation is the reason the artist Shakur rightly named this song in relation to the times that mostly he was bailed out of sticky situations by his mom or when she sense that he was lost, perhaps those lines of encouragement came abruptly through her tiredness body when working countless hours to provide a roof over their heads. The thesis of the song falls under “And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more” is the message most likely came from his mom of the countless women that came briefly in his life. My observation is that the song is about no social or economic classes that can demoralize and under appreciate women in all aspects. The message is what does happen through peaks and valleys should be confronted with optimism and strength to overcome any shortcoming or dubious circumstances relationships with the opposite sex.

In Tupac Shakur's song, Keep ya Head up", he constantly uses the refrian " keep ya head up" to motivate women to keep moving on regardless of the situation, such as the one Afeni Shakur found herself in:single ,addicted to crack and also poor. Tupac says, "And I realize mamma really paid the price she nearly gave her life, to raise me night is stating how hard it is being a poor single mother.
Tupac also describes about how a man will be with a women and then leaves when a baby comes into the picture. Empowerment and hardships and also gettin past the heartbreak(s) is what he is trying to get across.

In Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up" he explains how men treat women and how it affects the children in their future. Through his lyrics you can see his respect and understanding for single parents. In Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up" He states many different reoccurring themes that happen thought life experiences. one occurring theme is about dead beat mothers and fathers and how men create infants and don't make them their priority . Another theme is abusive relationships between men and women such as man putting woman down. As well as the struggle of a single parents raising children in poverty. I am responding to Uslie Meekins, Gregorey Belton, Arthur Gilbert, Anthony Jones, and lyla Holloway’s post on the Tupac Shakur's song "Keep Ya Head Up". This group I feel hit the nail right on the head, their views were very close to what I was feeling about the song, as far as their thinking’s on the theme being about abusive relationships, dead beat mothers/fathers, runaway parents and his (our) overall life experiences. Even though there are so many different things we can get out of this song, these things are a good main bunch of the “headlining views” I feel. Good post guys and girls!!

The song Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur is a message for not just women but also men of any ethnicity and background. ‘The verse I think it’s time we kill for our women’ is is clearly a call not just for men to protect and care for women but can be expanded to be a call for all people in society to care for one another. The portion of the verse ‘ and if you fall, stand tall and come back for more’ is a call to for all that have gone through trials not to give up and keep moving forward. The message remains constant to not lose pride in who you are because of what others think. The lament asking ‘why we beat and rape our women’ can be seen as a condemnation for a society that scorns those that ‘we got our game from.’ that very verse along with the following verses give praise to the skills and sacrifices the women in our lives make for us. The part that mentions the rich kids driving Mercedes can be in general terms a sort of disgust towards people who didn’t have to work for what they attained in life and got it only by their parents money. The following about struggling to hang on to surviving friends can be expanded to people who have stayed with you. The part mentioning welfare shows a forced dependence on government assistance due to the men not being there when they should be there.

Keep Ya Head Up
Tupac is a very inspiring person, though his main target is a black audience, many can relate to his music no matter the race. In Tupac’s song Keep Ya Head Up, he is the narrator telling the stories of other people; maybe events he personally saw occur to his friends or family members. He raps about the many issues ongoing in the black community and how he feels about it. Some of the main issues in the story involve misogyny, black on black violence, single parenting and poverty. One issue that keeps reoccurring throughout the rap involves single mothers. Many single mothers happen to have the same issues as far as poverty, black on black crime and drugs. The song is meant to encourage anyone black and especially single mothers to keep pushing forward in life even if most of the time it would be much simpler to give up and live in a world of sin. Tupac expresses these feeling when he states “I give a holler to my sisters on welfare Tupac cares and don’t nobody else care” ( 2, 3-4) Tupac also makes it obvious that this rap isn’t only fro women but also for males that can relate when he states “ I’m trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents it’s hard to be legit and still pay the rent” ( 3, 14-15) since males are traditionally the bread winners in the family he is making a point that many black males are sometimes put an a situation where selling drugs or stealing is the only way to stay on top.

In Tupac Shakur’s song “Keep Ya Head Up” he talks about how everyone has problems and people from all walks of life go through hardships but if we persevere we can overcome. Tupac Shakur brings to light the issues of deprivation in his music. Shakur also speaks of children being deprived of happy home due to only having one parent present. He speaks of music as a way out of the struggles of everyday life. “He had me feeling like black was the thing to be and suddenly the ghetto didn’t seem so tough.”

"Keep Ya Head Up"

Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac Shakur is very positive and encouraging song. It makes some people realize that things will be get better in time, prior to that, this song brought hope to the people! And open doors of understanding on how to love, and treat our women. Moreover, it gave women strength and healing from there trials and tribulations they go through in life. The line, "Oooo child things are gonna get easier" set the whole mood of the song. That part alone brought healing and strength to people I bet. I like how the song was at a slow temple and if you were crying listening to this song, the lyrics of the song will just dry your tears. The melody and words are so powerful, it seems like it travels in spirit to the ear of the broken hearted. More personal, the song encouraged me by listening to it. It gave me an understanding (Thinking to myself) "Yea, Tupac is right; our women have feelings just as us men." The song can give a single person the strength they need to persevere though tough times. The song also brings joy and excitement as well despite of your well-being or your status in life. I bet back when this song first came out every one played this song to gain: strength, motivation, power, love, peace, hope, future, and joy. In conclusion, Keep Ya Heap Up is a great song! It could not have been lyrically better! It was a perfect song in my sight.

I think the song "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac Shakur has deeply meaning and it is inspirational song for women around the world. Tupac hates violence and he thinks that every single problem has a solution. The song gives us adscription when women are struggling. When he said "last night my buddy lost his whole family it's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity" I think he tries to tell the world that violence could not solve any problem but it is make it difficult to solve. He makes an excellent point on how they have a lot of money to fight wars while there’s a person in the community that don’t have a bite to eat and are starving “you know when it rains it pours they got money for war but can’t feed the poor”. He speaks to the men when he says that we got to respect are women and be real to them there’s no point of having babies with them if you're not going to be in your Childs life “you know what makes me unhappy when broths make babies and leave a young mother to be a pappy”

Keep Ya Head Up

I think the song "Keep Ya Head Up" by Tupac Shakur has deeply meaning and it is inspirational song for women around the world. It tells us that we should keep our head up no matters what kind of problems do we have not only but also it gives us hope that whatever we did wrong we can always get back and do it right. In the verse when he says “And since a man can't make one He has no right to tell a women when are where to create one” I think he touched men also because I do not think he said anything to attack anyone but he was being very real and he gave credit to the real men.
