Today in class we read the title poem from The Rose that Grew from Concrete. It was the topic of the freewrite this morning.

We then took two "Sentence Punctuation" quizzes, reviewed Essay 1 in SPHE. Homework due Thursday for both classes is to bring the body paragraphs electronically.

Homework due next week is to complete the intro and the conclusion and bring in a printed copy of the essay for a peer review Monday/Tuesday. The essay is due electronically to me the following day. Do not forget to paste the essay and attach it. Hand the peer review and proofreading sheet into me the following class.

We will start Essay 2, Monday/Tuesday. Start the exercises now. If a student didn't do well on the quiz, he or she should review the chapter and if necessary get additional assistance in the academic labs in the Learning Resources Center (LRC). I am also a resource, a finite one however (smile).

The essay needs to be perfect. The details are important. The MLA should be perfect. I am not kidding.

Weekend Cyber-Homework
Read the intro, preface and forward in Rose. Homework for Thursday, September 8, 2011, will be to summarize one of the three in a paragraph (5-10 sentences). Include one citation in the summary: a free paraphrase, a short quote or a block quote. Don't forget the works cited page.

Post it here (English 201 8-8:50).

In class tomorrow we will spend most of our time in groups discussing Holler, Chapter 1, using the Literature Circles handout as a guide. The freewrite will be Michael Jackson's song: "Heal the World."

Next week Monday-Tuesday, we will spend most of the class on Holler, Part 1, since we didn't get to talk much about it this week. We will continue paraphrasing and summarizing as we look at Dyson's arguments and what evidence he uses to prove them.

There was an assignment due this week and another next week. Check the syllabus. We will talk about it tomorrow.

“Heal the World” freewrite

“Heal the world, Make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire human race”
This line basically summarizes the whole message of the song. If everybody in the world makes a effort to make the world a better place, this world we live in would be so much better. If everybody went out of their way to just throw the trash away in the trash can it would make such a difference. People should also be more generous and not hold a grudge against everybody. Peace, Love, Unity(smile).

“Heal the World” freewrite

In the song “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson, He writes about how to heal the world and make it a better place. In the first stanza he writes “There’s a place in your heart and I know that it is love”. What he is trying to say that everyone has love and care inside them although everyone might not show it. With love you can change a nation or nations there is always room to grow and room to mature. He supports that by saying “see the nations turn their swords into plowshares”. I think he just wants everyone to stop fighting and get to together that way you can heal the world

"Heal The World" Writing Response

In Micheal Jackson's "Heal The World" brought back memories because when I was in Kindergarten I sung this song in a choir. This is a very motivational song to me and it encourasges everyone to come together as one and the change we are capable of making. The ttitle of the song says it all "heal the world" and I think Micheal Jackson targeted all audience and he was not just talking to one specific group of people which is why I feel this song is so powerful.

"We could really get there if you cared enough." This line essentially shows us that it starts with a choice and it is highly possible. Moreover, if more people realized to love, to have compassion, and to have peace is a choice then the world would be healed. We all need to come to one accord, with love, and join as a unity to heal the world.

Free Write Michel Jackson “Heal The World”
This morning we listened to the song, “Heal the World.” I enjoyed the part of the song where Michael Jackson says “See the nations turn thier swords.” This is an excelent quote from the song about the nations coming together in peace. I don’t have much time to reflect on this in class but I would like to mention the peace the world needs today. I think that it is important to have peace in the world today with all the violence and fighting going on.

“If you care enough for the living make a little space make a better place”
This line really caught my attention the most because I believe that everyone can relate to it on some many levels no matter what prospective you look at it from regardless if you’re a mother, a father, or even a young adult. Everyone in this world has someone that is special to them and they wouldn’t know what to do if that person took their last breath today. So in my eyes what it is saying is that if you care about these people in your life and want them to be there till the end then you should do any and everything to make the world a better place. Because the reality of it all is that nobody wants to have to bury their family member or close friend due to non-since etc.

"Heal The World"

First off the i could pick any lyrics in the song and wrote about them. This song is really influential for American and the entire world in my eyes. "We stop existing and start living" is really influential to me. This line is what i live by because with this mentally i want to be part of the world and not just live in it. I feel if more people wanted to change the world for the better but standing up for their beliefs and having a voice in communities it would better this world. One person will NOT change the world, it has to be done in quantity and if everyone maintained free will as an essential value in life , i think that the human race could change the concept of living. Living is enjoying life and being who you wanna be to me and fighting for your beliefs even if your the only one in the room doing the right thing. Existingis just going with one everyone tells you to do and in the end shapes your personality as being alot of other people than yourself. This line shows healing the world starts with people who wanna live the right way and have a positive influence when it come to change.

“Heal the World” Free Write

In the song “Heal the World” by Michael Jackson, he sends a message to everyone that there should be a day or time when everyone throughout the globe can make piece and greet future together. He said “Let our spirits never die, in my heart, I feel you are all, my brother”. Even though everyone is not the same race or same religion, I believe that we can come together for a common cause and accomplish great things. Through different race and religion we discover something more great and understand others more. Also this message could mean why would there be discrimination, because we are all human beings but just from different place. If people want peace and make this world best for their kids, then they should be peaceful and stop all the war going on. Michael reached out to many people and inspired them with if they have hope there will be a chance to not only save one person, but save the whole world.

Michael Jackson’s Vision: Heal the World Response
In the song “Heal the World” Michael Jackson talks about how we should change the world by stopping all of the violence such as murder and wars and also to protect our children. We should not hate those who are different from us such as race and gender. The video shows different people from different countries trying to find peace and running away from wars.
One line that I found interesting or something that stood out was, “There are people dying if you care enough for the living make a better place for you and for me,”. This was interesting to me because it makes sense. If we care about anyone, then why do we kill or hate those who are different from us. We should not settle into any type of violence because there is no point to kill someone and every one should treat others the way they want to be treated.
Michael Jackson was a passionate singer with an inspirational message. He wanted the world to change and for all races to unite to make the world better. This is not the only song that Michael Jackson has sung to where he wants people to understand the purpose of world peace and why we should encounter it now.

“We could really get there if you cared enough for the living” this line is saying many people don’t cared about many things, our society in the past, today and future was, is, and will always be all messed up because people either give up or don’t care, majority do not believe that by one person making a simple difference it will do any affect, Especially when majority of us who do not care demonstrate we don’t care, young ones will be raised on adults actions, Its saying if we all cared a little more, showed a little more love to things/each other, the world would be a better place.

The line if you care enough make a little space make a better place. well i grew in Oakland i know exactly what he's saying. basically if people just stop to think about how little things can make a huge difference the world would be that much calmer such as asking someone how there doing or talking to someone who thinks there invisible. if the older people from the neighbor hood that hang out on the corner showed the young ones how to pick up a book instead of a gun, these are the things that would change the world.

The song “Heal the World” from Michael Jackson, is the message that from the children that is the future of generations is to better our world in preserving and making our planet strong and safe. It’s our responsibility to educate and plant the seed to help and nurture our children to not better themselves but to pass the baton to further generation of future leaders and innovators. In the ninth stanza that Jackson song “Heal the World - “create a world with no fear-- happy tears” this actually is his life time purpose for children growing ups safe in this world of chaos and hatred. His overall theme is that all parents should place their children priory one with everything else secondary so even though as themselves didn’t fare in life, their offspring might have a better chance for opportunity in life and using their unselfish persona, when they leave this world – the world is in better shape for the future generations to love and thrive.

Heal the world
Heal the world is a very powerful song. Along with the song if you watch the video it makes this song an even more powerful song with a powerful message. The video shows a lot of children and also shows a whole lot of weapons and guns that should not be associated with children. “ Make It A Better Place,” is the line I chose because i feel like it was very telling after watching the video that we need to change our culture. We need to keep out children safe and away from guns and wepons, so that we can make our world a better place.

Michael Jackson's Heal The World Message

Eventhough Michael Jackson has been dead for over 3 years the message of his music still hasn't change. Its meaning still have made a great umpact to our society and have broke barriers. This is my first time actually reading the lyrics of Michael Jackson piece "Heal the world". This song reveals how passionate he is about the world, stopping the world hunger and promoting peace. I have yet to discover the true meaning of it if I know more about the man. There is no doubt Michael Jackson wants to spread the world peace. He repeatitively sing the chorus "Heal the world make it a better place for you and me and for the entire human race. There are people dying if you care enough for the living make a better place for you and for me". By this repetition, I do believe he wants people to remember and plant in thier hearts the importance of caring for one another. I also would make you think. What can "me" as a person do to make my life better, not just other peoples life to be better.

In the song "Heal The World" Michael Jackson sings, “ Heal the world make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race”. I think that he's talking about the world not being such a friendly place, but with good people in it it could be better. Also, in the video it displays all types of different scenes that's happening in the world. Most of the scenes were of people struggling or hungry children. The video also shows people in the war.
I think that the line that I picked is the main point in the song because the video shows a hardship that's going on and then later on shows that things are changing and people are actually happy and smiling.
