Today in class students were to develop four thesis sentences from the poem: The Shining Star Within! Dedicated 2 Marilyn Monroe (Shukur 23). Choose a topic and develop 4 sentences: 1 definition, 1 analogy, 1 consequence, 1 testimony.

We also read the poem Starry Night (25). Look up Vincent van Gogh and bring in a topic to reflect on tomorrow for the freewrite. Post the four sentences from today's freewrite in the post "Topical Invention."

2. We reviewed "possessives" up to page 229. Finish 230 and read the essay. If students have completed the essay and the templates, type them and email them to yourself.

3. Homework is to keep reading Afeni and Guy. We will have a writing assignment from Guy tomorrow. We are going to write a three paragraph summary for each chapter up to chapter six. Each student will have a different chapter. Bring your books to class and tonight think about central themes in each chapter. We will discuss this in more detail tomorrow morning.

If you are not there, Thursday, we will be up to chapter 8, so read chapter 7.

Potential

Definition: Potential means to have the ability to become something and is capable of happening.

Analogy: Potential is related to talent - people want to show how talented they are so people will understand that they have potential to become a big star or something epic.

Consequence: Not having enough potential can cause people to perceive that individual as untalented or not able to achieve an impressive career.

Testimony: "in Fear of self-expression
It has been this way
forever and a day
until she came 2 shine
with a spark of innocence and questions" (23).

The Shinning Star
A tragedy is an event causing a great amount of distress, destruction, and anguish.
Tragedy is like having your child die before its own birth.
With a tragedy brings plenty of pain and devastation to our minds.
Because the shinning star was ignored, its death brought the tragedy of losing someone that had potential to make a change that was not realized till it had been taken away.

Shinning Star Within
-disappointment
The main theme or idea of the poem The Shinning Star Within is of someone full of potiential and promise who never quite reaches their peak or prestige. For example a college graduate with aerospace degree who never flies on a air craft, they will never feel the reward and praise of their accomplishments Like when the poem reads, "... No compassion for the thriving... Never acknowledging the shinning star within..."(Shakur.23) This shows the disappointment of someones effort being lost orgoging to waste

Under The Influence Of Music
Gangster rap is somewhat influential to young teens because, it is based on lifestyle and life itself.
the rappers write about their lives which makes young teens influenced. It is also, bad because in the songs it brings up violence and crime. This plays an important role in our life.
Gangster rap also, has brought up a lot of controversy towards young teens who listen to the music. Young teens also, want to pursue rapping later on listening to these rappers. I think gangster rap is good music towards young teens because, it can be bad and it can be good in different ways and those ways are: The cons are Young teens want to own guns, knives. And the pros are it is influential in the way that teens than want to pursue a music career.
