Social Entrepreneur

The social entrepreneur profile is Dr. John Wood. John Wood impressed me. He identified a problem that many poor countries suffered from. His vacation to Nepal and the sentence that he heard from a school's headmaster changed his life. In Nepal he started an organization that called Room to Read. He saw that many children couldn't afford to go to school and those rural schools had a chronic shortage of books. It spurred woods to start Room to Read, a literacy program that now helps educate millions of children. The relationship to the community is very close since he helps erase illiteracy. This issue is being addressed because the community need like this organization to erase illiteracy. Local citizens are involved because they are the ones that being educated. The community owns the process because it's in their community, where they get education. He was one of the greatest social entrepreneurs in United States of America and the whole world who helped the poor children get good education.

Social Entrepreneur

The social entrepreneur that I chose to profile in the essay is Jennie McNulty. Jennie McNulty grew up in San Francisco and studied the way businesses work. She observed how businesses in the Bay Area can deny a person based on their ethnicity or income. McNulty helps people start by helping market their business and also builds buildings for them to work in. The organization that she works for is Urban Solutions. The relationship to the community is close and friendly because the community (such as people who want to be employeed or start their own business) trusts the organization to help support them in order to become a successful business. This issue is being adressed because many small businesses sre denied or shut down due to the ignorance of large businesses. Local citizens are involved because this is important for them to become successful and learn how to continue to reach their goals even when they are being doubted. The community owns this process because the organization takes place in both San Francisco and Oakland and involves both San Francisco and Oakland communities.

Social Entrepreneur presentation

I presented yesterday. I am not sure how did I did. I was very nervous because that was my first time to present in a different language. I talked about Dr. John Wood. The good thing is that the presentation made me know better about him and let my classmates know him and what he did. I knew his story before doing the essay but when I wanted to do the essay I searched for him and I really knew a lot of new things about him and that's inspired me to do researches about people to know better about them.

Changing what it means to be blind abstract

I chose to write this essay on Michael Hingson because the first time I heard him speak at a blind conference it blew my mind. It was so interesting to hear him talk about surviving the world trade center. He is a blind man that wanted to start his own buiness to speaking to others about blindness and teamwork and trust. His Guidedog Roselle as you will see helped him get out and she is one of the reasons he wanted to start the Michael Hingson group. He wants to help others like himself know it is better to be a team sometimes. He had to put a lot of trust in his guidedog who was afraid of storms, but she made sure he was out safely. They even helped others get out safely as well.

Michael Formed the Michael Hingson Group in July of 2008. He has been in business for 30 years in senior sales and management for high tech, innovative companies such as Xerox, and Quantum Corporation.

He graduated from the University of California at Irvine. He got a masters in Physics. He is a lifetime member of the Physics Honors Society, and Sigma Pi Sigma.
